Step 20 :
Remove the 3 gears from the front half of the servo casing and lay them on the table !! Give all the parts a good clean ! I normally use a old tooth brush to clean the gears, it works well !!. Also check them for any damage !! if all is well you can now reassemble the servo…The pic called STEP20 shows you all the parts laid out !! I’ve numbered the Gears 1, 2 and 3 and I have also labeled the mounting points on the front half of the case so you can see where they go !! start with the Gear labeled 1. Attach the servo saver attachment arm to the pin on Gear 1 then mount Gear 1 into location 1 on the front case half.(see pic STEP20A) Now mount Gear 2 (see pic STEP20B), then Gear 3 (STEP20C). Now place the back servo case half back on !!
You should now have a complete gear box !!!
INFO
You can recognize your Gears by this, Gear 1 has the locating mount for both the POT and also the Servo saver. Gear 2 has a larger small cog on the side and gear 3 has the smaller small cog on the side !!! (if that makes sense) !!Now that you have a clean chassis set it aside and you can start on the servo itself !!
Step 18 :
start by removing the motor from it’s location by pulling it straight out as per pic STEP18 then remove the plate behind the POT and then the POT as per pic STEP18A. be careful removing the plastic backing plate as the locating pin are fragile !! I broke one of mine on a previous clean up ! you can see this in the pic called STEP18B… it still work perfect as once it installed back in the chassis it all put into location and held tightStep 19 :
The pic called STEP19 shows the remainder of the servo and show which plate I call the front and which I call the back !!! Remove the back plate leaving the gears on the pins of the front plate !! see pic called STEP19AStep 14 :
OK now turn the car back over and grab hold of the servo saver as per the pic celled STEP14 and gently pull straight up. This will lift the whole servo setup out of the chassis .. Be careful as the on/off switch is still mounted in the chassis !!!Step 15 :
in the pic called STEP15 you can see the screw that I have marked with the red dot !! this is the screw that holds the on/off switch in !! Undo this screw making sure you have hold carefully of the PCB and servo setup as not to brake any wires !!!.. Once this screw is undone you will be able to remove the little clamp (see pic called STEP15A) that holds the switch.Step 16 :
You can then lift the switch out of the chassis and the whole PCB and servo setup will be separate from the rest of the car as per pic STEP16 !!!Now after all that we can actually start to clean something !!! 😀
Step 17 :
Start with the chassis !! Clean out the servo and steering compartments look at the pic called STEP17 to see these areas. You may as well clean the diff housing while your at it !!!Step 10 :
OK now that you know where the wore go, use your finger nail to pop the clip on the side of the car so the servo cover can come off !! see the pic celled STEP10. once you pop the clip it should just fall off and reveal the POT, Servo gears, servo saver and motor !! as per pic STEP10AStep 11 :
remover the screw I’ve marked with the Red dot in the pic called STEP11 and then remove the clip under it. you remove it buy gently pushing it to the drivers side of the car !!Step 12 :
Now lift the servo saver up and over then sit it on top of the gear like in the pic called STEP12 now remove the little pivot pin from the servo save and place it somewhere safe !!!Step 13 :
Turn the car over and gently push down on the rear of the servo motor just 1m or 2 to free it up as per the pic celled STEP13.Step 5 :
Remove both the screws marked with the red dots in the pic celled STEP5, Then remove the PCB cover and set all this aside ! to remove the PCB cover lift the front where the screws where and push it to wards the rear you may need to use your finger nail to pop the rear clip !! be careful that the PCB is not stuck up in the cover as it sometimes is !!..Step 6 :
Now this is where you have to be VERY careful as the wires are very fragile and will brake very easily !! OK, Carefully twist the PCB anti-clockwise 90deg so you can see the two screw heads that are underneath !!! Look at the pic called STEP6 to get a better idea, I’ve marked the screws with red dots !! Also you will need a very fine phillips head driver for these two screws !!Step 7 :
Now remove them two screws from Step 5 and flip the PCB up 90deg ! to reveal the Grey and Black wires underneath the Red and Black ones from the PCB. Look at the pic called STEP7 to get a better idea !!Step 8 :
now left the Grey and Black wires as per the pic called STEP8 and also remove the screw I’ve marked with the Red dot.Step 9 :
Before you remove the servo cover take notice of where the wires come through !!! as you will need to place them there when you put it all back together or it will pinch the wires !!! I attached the pic called STEP9 for reference anyway !!yeah this is what I was going to include in the strip down !! The problem with the AWD’s is you have to strip a heap of the car down to get to the steering components !!
HMMM… This is not the easiest job !!! but I will be doing mine either later tonight or in the morning as it needs a clean also !! so if you can wait till then I’ll do a walk through with pix for ya !!!
Till then !!!

@Betty.K – Thanks heaps for all that info it’s much appreciated !!!! With all this help from you guys I should end up with a sweet 02 !! Finally !!!
I like my cars to do around 50k’s !! It just seem a sweet speed for me !! I’m use to racing my larger cars that do 100+k’s and these things doing around the 50k mark keeps me on my toes !! Which is how I like it !!! hehe
Anyway, Thanks again guys !!! I’ll organize a kyosho oil shock and the correct rear wheels and let ya’s know how I go !!!
P.S. Thats a sweet lookin 02 Betty.K
@Ph2t – Yeah I was fairly sure that was the setup you ran !! Thanks hay! :topstuff: I’ll give it a red hot go and see what happens..
I’m running the VDS body so yeah I need wides with 3mm offset I tried some Gandini’s that I had already but I don’t know what compound they are !! But It did make a big difference !!! but it looked like crap on the VDS both style and 0 offset !! I’ll PM you soon to see if you can help wth something !!!
Thanks again !!!
Thanks guys !!! Yeah not to sure about clearance !! The standard shock only just fits so it may not !! but it wouldn’t bother me to cut a nice shaped hole matched to the shock for clearance !!! I’m use to this as I run LOLA body’s on my 1/10 car and have to cut holes for the Fuel lid and Motor !!
@TallDude – Thanks mate all info helps !!! You broke a T plate in a front on hit ?? Thats a big hit !!! well done !!! LOL
Your a champ !!!!
So you use wides on the rear yeah ??
So if I use Gandini’s would I get medium compound too ?
Also PH2T, What rear shocks (top /side) do you use ??
If your buying from AM’s shop then click on the one for the MR01 !! I don’t know if there is any difference but it’s listed at $2 cheaper so !!!!
But yes the 02 one will bolt on an 01 weather there is any alignment differences I don’t know
Whats the $$ on one of these ? Thats cool !! Just saw the $ in the other post !!!
thanks dude !!! :topstuff:
ok, have all that, bar the oil damper !!! so kyosho oil shock !! and dont run a spring on it ? so it just dampens yeah ?
dont bother with alloy gears !!!! the plastic ones dont brake that easy !!
Just buy a few sets of plastic ones !!! and like Kevsta said a few sets of knockles !!!
I’ve never broken a H plate !!!
I dont seem to have any trubble getting MR01 parts !!! I just full hopped up an MR01 for a mate and got every single hop up part made for it !!! even the sway bar which is the hardest part to get hold of !!!
whats the addy for rippers
Thanks bud, It’s the 1st version of the VDS !!! I wouldn’t mind getting the new one it looks a little sweeter I think !!!
Yeah I wont to know what works before I buy anything else for the 02 !!! I spent a mint on parts for my 1st 02 and it never works right !!!
keep it dude You’ll love it !!!!
The gear sets are only a few dollors anyway !! as long as you keep it off the walls you’ll be right …..
LoL !!!! :topstuff:
MMM I run on concrete too !! I’ve spent forever adjusting the balldiff to different settings !!
and yep I’ve tried a few different foams on the rear too !! still no luck !!!Ya mind if I get a few specs from you ??
Do you run side shocks ??
Do you have a top shock setup or do you run the kyosho oil shock with no spring ??
What notch T plate do you run ?? 1, 2 or 3
What brand and hardness foams do you run ??sorry for all the questions I just want this car to run right !!!
That’s damn small !!!
S#!T dude ! You must be very hard on your car’s man !!!! I have only broken 2 1st gears in the servo and thats in 3 years + !! My MR01 TSC’s at just over 50k’s and I do drive it very hard !!!! The only other parts I’ve even broken is 2 right side 3deg camber knockles !!!
I have never been able to get an MR02 to handle at all !!! Are you using it in RM or MM ?? I’ve only ever used them in MM but there just too ass endy and want to donut all the time !!!! I’ve tried different springs (side and top), different T plates, different wheels, offsets and widths, different tyres and thats just on the rear !!! I just cant get them to hang on !! even with the Lola body with all that downforce it still just go’s round comming out of the corners !!!! and this thing only tops out at about 30k’s as I haven’t bothered to make it go any faster as it dont handle at this speed… :gatlin:
If I have to use it in the RM setup to make it hang on then I may as well use my MR01 ….
…
I have never used an X mod so I dont know how the braking works on them but I can tell you that the braking on the MR02’s and the AWD mini z’s work really well !!! You can now also get new versions of the MR01 PCB that has the braking feature also !!! about $110 delivered and this also includes a new complete MR01 servo setup !!!
£30 is about $73aus… That ebay link Mini Z has A few hop-ups and thats so for $70 it’s not to bad.. Also, just incase you dont know already your MR01 doesn’t have the braking feature !!… And the rear tyres on that MR01 are out there and I think would be as useless as tits on a bull !!!
As I said above, I think the mr01 has the best handling out of all of them once hopped up… Speed wise, it depends what motor you use so in a straight line they can all be as fast as each other !!!!
just my 2c
