I’ve heard about this problem over on the Sigma Automotive Message Boards. Last I heard, there was no solution. It would appear that all cars are not created equally.
Shell, Compaq, and Budweiser are still in there. I started working on Sony, but in the interest of getting it done, pulled it back out. I’ll work on the others.
If anyone can get me a Red Bull logo, I’d really appreciate it. I can’t find a decent one anywhere–not even on their website.
I’m also thinking about making a sheet or half-sheet of Star Wars Episode II crash barriers. Is there any interest in it?
Can you help us out with some dimensions – especially track width and curve radii, Rabbit23? Pix will be great when you have time! Lemme know if you need some space to host them….
Thanks in advance – sounds pretty coolismo indeed!
Derek
W0000T! Nice work, ZeroBXU. And, you other kids, keep the suggestions coming! I’ll get around to carving up some new ones in the next week….
…..just as soon as I solve my current crisis (HDD failure in my home server/gateway box). BUGGER!!
Hope everyone’s having a great weekend…..
Oooooooooooooooooh!!!!! Well-spotted once again, ylexot!
Will order a few on Monday and report on what they’re like. The price is certainly entertaining!
Thanks again
Personnally, I’d suggest the booster set. I like it better than my SE Skyline. But that’s just my opinion. Get one of these:
27 MHz http://www.toyeast.com/proddetail2.asp?pdtid=ATORC042
35 MHz http://www.toyeast.com/proddetail2.asp?pdtid=ATORC043
45 MHz http://www.toyeast.com/proddetail2.asp?pdtid=ATORC044
57 MHz http://www.toyeast.com/proddetail2.asp?pdtid=ATORC045
I also suggest either 35 or 45 MHz since some have problems with 27 and 57.
How about these:
Bridgestone
Goodyear
Dunlop
Mobil 1
Shell
Elf
Compaq
Sony
TDK
Vodafone
Warsteiner
Budweiser
Darryl
The Loctite SE Skyline will definitely keep you busy. I hope you have some “wide open spaces” to run it, because it’s too fast to stay on a table. You might want to add a 1.0 engine to your order, just in case you need something a little more manageable.
P.S. Welcome to the Message Boards!
Hehehehehe……
3.0 Engine is excellent forbig, opentracks or cars with very low gearing. Put simply – it’s got LOTS of top-end speed, but the tradeoff is the time to get up to full speed.
Demo Derby racer – THAT I gotta see!
Congrats! I love my booster car too…very easy to control. Now it’s time to mod bodies. Be prepared for the demo derby racer

As long as you let daddy play eith some of your Nitros!

No changes that I know of, but I will check with Aaron (who is in Sydney tomorrow) if he’s been fiddling with the code while he’s been on holidays. It would be interesting if he has – he’s been on the road with only his mobile and HP Jornada 565 for internet access.
Will post follow-up to this thread as soon as I find out.
Thanks for the heads-up.

Do you want to adopt me and send me cool gadgets as your “son”? I can call you dad and everything if you like. But – sorry – no kissing!
Hehehheehe

(Friday 5pm is just 44mins away – wooohooo!)
Hi David (and welcome aboard ausmicro.com!)
Unfortunately the answer is “NO”. Vehicles on EXACTLY the same frequency cannot race unless they use something like FM PCM digital signatures on their respective TX/RX units. Of course, Bit Char-G cars have simple AM TX/RX units so – any cars on the same frequency set will mean conflict.
Even cars on the same band but slightly different frequencies (eg 45MHz standard or spec edand45MHz booster car) tend to conflict in some units due to the loose frequency tolerance offered by the cars and controllers.
Cheers
Derek
Hey i just tried that trick on my 35mhz, and it does seem to work! I can get better range now with little or no stuttering!
Good find mate!
Hey Chris
(Jjust noticed you’re a first-time poster – WELCOME!)
That’s VERY interesting about the capacitor in the TX unit. My 57MHz GT-R hasn’t had any of the symptoms that you describe but then, I haven’t really pushed it beyond 2 or 3 metres.
I will open up a 57MHz unit tonight and do some testing/soldering and post some photos and a quick write-up over the weekend.
Thanks again for your post…. a worthy heads-up if I’ve ever seen one!
Cheers
Derek
(at work – errrch!)
Aye carumba! They are Bit Char-G alright!
Look out USA you guys might be finally getting dirt-cheap Bit Char-G coming your way!!!
Well-spotted, Rye!!!
Derek
Those are definitely Bit Char-G cars, all right. Here’s a hyperlink to the Hobbico Microsizer webpage. The odd thing is, it looks like the standard bodies, but their pics have the windows blacked out, like the OEM Bullets. And according to their product list, it looks like the only frequencies are 27 MHz and 49 MHz. So much for four people racing…
Very, very odd.
That pretty interesting all those links to making cutters. But the one I have is 3x as simple, and a heck of alot more practical.
Derek, I think after you see this thing. You will be like, oh man! Why the heck didn’t I think of building one of these years ago!
The canister, which houses the 2 “D” cell batteries(thats all the power it takes)is about the size and dimensions of a racketball can.
They sell replacement wire for it, so I’ll get approximate guage, etc.
Expect a Feature on it this weekend.

Just out of curiousity, which 57 MHz car was it? My red RX-7 hasn’t had that problem.
Of course, this is good information for everybody. I keep hearing about that blue WRX having that problem. I haven’t finished the body-detailing on my WRX yet, so I don’t know if mine has that problem yet or not.

A friend of mine had similar problems with his car when he first got it, we ended up pulling it a apart and found a blob of solder flying around within…
I’m not saying this could be your problem as well, but it might be worth your while to carefully pull the car apart and have a look see if all is ok…
Particularly look closely @ the solder of the antenna wire, as this is where I suspect my friends stray blob of solder may have come from…
Just take care when opening it up…
Ok guys, I did a search and found several DIY hot wire foam cutters. Each one seems to have a different method and layout. I saw some pretty good ideas in each design.Maybe someone can combine all their designs into the “ultimate”, but cheap cutter. One guy even said he made one for $4! It looks like the toughest part is finding the nichrome wire (they all sayhobby shops sould have it). Anyway, here’s the links:
http://www.canadianhovercraftfederation.org/FAQs/2foam_cutter.htm
http://www.gizmology.net/hotwire.htm
…and as for me making one, ylexot, I am seriously THE least-handy-handyman on the planet! But… if someone else wants to build/test one and tell me exactly what I need to do – I’ll have a go!
But if I built something like that without any guides I’d just as likely burn the entire apartment complex down. (READ: I would not be a popular man!)
Hmmmmmm
Floydski: Oooooh! Yeppers… would love a pic of this in operation. Based on the emails I’ve received, it would seem the painted foam track might become a bit of a favourite construction method. If you want to write up where you got it from, cost etc we can do a quick feature of it on the tech section.
Krayzie: You haven’t seen these things anywhere else other than that Yahoo! shopfront (keeping in mind your “trustworthyness” comment) have you? I asked at both a craft/hobby shop and a hardware store yesterday. both looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language.
Cheers lads
