Quote:I meant to say SPY. It’s just overpriced, overhyped crap IMO, plenty of stories of blown Spys (do they even have thermal shut down?)
Supposedly has:
“One-Touch Set-Up, Radio Priority Circuitry, Polar Drive Technology, Thermal Protection, Smart Braking, and Reverse Disable.”Think there was more emphasis on making it small & lightweight more than any other factor, so they do say “*Not for use in R/C cars with a 380 or 540-size (.05) motor.”
Bit of a mystery as to who’s the distributor for GM in Oz so that’s a hassle.
Quite a few cases of LRP Quantum Comps (aka Futaba 800, aka Nosram Dominator Power etc) not just blowing up but actually catching fire in TCs, although you’ll probably not see that in a Micro.
Futaba distributorship is at least pretty stable & reliable. They’ve only recently dropped 230/330 pricing to 79/119 (from approx 120/160) so that definitely brings them up on value. The 230/330 is a Futaba design, not a LRP rebadge job.
What’s wrong with the Novak Atom??
Quote:Would this be a good one?http://www.rcmart.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=421_36_51&products_id=6782
Matt:- have suspicions that the Tamiya 302 is same as the Futaba MC230CR. Its small for 1/10 but not as small as the mRS4-specific ones like Novak SPY.
Futaba 230 sells for A$79 at Metro.
It will handle any micro motor you can think of.Or for the same size and a little more loose change, think about the Futaba 330 too just $120. It will handle down to 540 12-turn I think, a fantastic buy at that price.
Pretty sure Decor would have some plastic lunchbox in roughly that size.
Do you have a “Plastics Unlimited” store down your way?
Quote:oh give yourselves more credit. your country was founded by the drunks that got kicked out of england. so you guys are like extra drunk brittish dudes. i respect australian booze with high reguard!!:dead:heh heh.. better drunks than TEA drinkers, eh? :smiley16:
Some silly Senate MP smashes his car into 4 parked cars on Monday morning… figures. :dead:
Quote:However I find the concept of investing in Fine Wines quite curious. There’s a company that does this specifically and they do have some impressive results. The other thing to consider is that you can always drink it 😉Yea, looked into it too with ’90 Grange hit $700… :smiley2: but thought twice when discovered its actually ILLEGAL in Oz to sell wine (ie disposing of your investment on the market) without a liquor licence.
Now just dispose of it “legally”. :smiley16: Salut!
Quite a few warehousing companies here now cater for long-term wine storage in a secure airconditioned space. They charge as low as $2/case/pa so that’s pretty reasonable. Putting it offsite also makes it less tempting for consumption.
Oz wine industry is in for a tough time next few yrs. There’s going to be a huge glut in supply due to over-investment in vinyards, many more of which are just coming on song (takes 5-7 yrs to develop). Also the overseas markets are saturated with competition from Chilean, Californian etc and Oz wine is looking “boring”.
ya gotta host them on your ISP’s webspace or other website, no URL can just point to your C: drive. “file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/robin/My%20Documents/My%20Pictures/QuickCam/Album/bit%…” blackeye:
Quote:howabout you panda?this week I’m on the ‘sell’. 😀
A couple seem to be peaking and the charts look ominous
so might as well knock them off the portfolio.
(Yeah, I’m a pseudo-charter.)I’m not a licenced financial adviser so I can’t blab out
loud which ones, but those’re all major Oz bluechips. :smiley2:Haven’t come across any that look like they’re starting on
the up… haven’t heard any tips lately either. :question:Quote:and i’m curious to know if flying without the body affects the aerodynamics of helicopters:8ball:For fullsize RC choppers the body does nothing much.
The boom is solidly attached to the chassis and the bodyshell
(made of lexan/ABS/fibreglass) is just for looks. On the little toy ones, maybe there’s no separate chassis.
Anyone use “FMS”?
If you’re after some fancy small motors, maybe check inside some Battery Toothbrushes.
Got cheap ones from Colgate etc selling for $10-15, all of them have 180 or similar motors in them which might come handy.
(180 is like a longer 130.)
Come to think of it… the family DOES have some watercraft powered by a stock 130…! 😀
Its this thing:

tam70153 Submarine Motor Torpedo Type in Waterproof Case

Performance wasn’t very memorable… 👿
Most of the good computer radios are FM; MiniZs use AM 27MHz.
Some radios have replaceable RF modules and you can buy AM RF modules to suit a MiniZ. Modules are available for KO Mars, Sanwa M8 and (I think) Futaba 3PK… although I haven’t seen the 3PK one around yet.
Quote:Bloody hell, let me see, already run out of fingers.yep, out of toes too.
Quite a few ppl have been RC’ing Barbie’s VW Transporter, Barbie’s Corvette, Barbie’s 355 Ferrari, Barbie’s RAV4 etc etc.
So last week I went and bought… Barbie’s VESPA…! 👿
Thing will need a drivetrain AND a steering system to be scratchbuilt; guess I’d better bearing the plastic wheels too.
Well… started racing them back in ’79… 🙂
Those numbers are always only valid as long as the FETs stay at 25degC… once they get hotter, all bets are off. 🙂
Haha… yeah, the planes we flew in the 1970s were “conventional”. Although I’d usually end up using too much epoxy and be quite a few grammes overweight. 😀
So we just stick in a OS40 instead of OS25, 60 instead of 40 etc.
Weight not that strict on a boat though.
This guy that I was buying my shrinkwrap from, he showed me this huge battery pack he made out of about 40 subCs. It was a huge stick 2x2x10 over 2 feet long, weighed 2kg+.
His boat was about 1m hull, running some Aeveox motor.
40cm… isn’t that size of a 1/10 shell??
Must be a BIG box!! 🙂Hmm… 1/10 shell… upside down… 👿
Ferrari Enzo catamaran? 😀
Do these 49s run on nitro or Cox model fuel? (aka ether or acetone)
Those boats aren’t that small, usually ends up 4x the size of the box.
You’re getting old JK… wouldn’t have expected saying this to you but definitely you’ll be needing MORE POWER. 🙂
Don’t know what it is with boats, but they usually need 2X the power of the same sized car so even overkill is never enough. Try something bigger like in a 540 size. :smiley16: And 10 cells. :p
And try to build all your onboard radio gear into a airtight tupperware box, silicone seal all the holes that wires come out of.
Quote:– Trading online in Australia in the hobby business is pretty cut-throat.Aye me hearty mateys, aye. Good fun it is too, if one is a workaholic who doesn’t care about making any profit. :p
Quote:The large established bricks and mortar stores (Frontline Hobbies, Hobbyco, Radio Models) all offer exceptionally competitive prices and stock levels through their online presence compared to what you or I could do when dealing through the Aussie “official” importers.Well at least 1 of those 3 buys through official sources… but if you buy a lot regularly, you’ve got leverage to wangle good trade discounts.
Yeah, Biz Basics 102.
Quote:Quite a few people import from HK direct and resell but you’ll need a lot of cash up front to make a go of it and a lot of contacts.Yep! :smiley16:
Shipping is also another drama… a small percentage of parcels do disappear in the mail. Given the high value + tiny markup, each and every item put in the mail is a big gamble.
Lose just 1 and you’ll have to sell 100x to make up what you’ve lost. 😯
yeah I’d say so.
But its got a pretty decent swag of FETs, looks a lot like that on the Futaba 230. Might be a pretty conservative rating.
If you’re lucky, yeah. 🙁 On the retail scheme of things, that level is pitifully low. One would think one’s selling a commodity like petrol (5%) or groceries (10%).
Other industries? Clothing retailers 100-300%, takeaway food & coffee 300-1000%.
Hey bankers… what about manga DVDs & VCDs? Very impressive with what HK’s stores have… if you can get a line in those there’s heaps better markup there!! 🙂
(lemme know too, looking for a piece of the action there…)
National distributors will not supply for export, that’s the 1st rule in everyone’s distributorship contracts.
Helps heaps if one’s an Ozzie living in Japan, huh?? :smiley16:
