Looks good dude, I suspect the missed call on my mobile last night was to do with this dilema? :smiley2:.

I use 6V battery pack for charging the car when I’m out and about. I don’t think this is enough voltage though. Although after charging it the car works fine and goes for a while.

IF you’re gonna use a power pack, it’s best to limit the current using a 5W wirewound resistor. I charge my batts at 800mA which is way too much for the poor 50mAh batts but hey, I’m impaitient!:D

I think if you charged at say 200-300mA you will get a better runtime due to the excessive over charging not being as much as it would be at 800mA.

If you need a hand just give me a call…

    Cheers,

The main achilles heel in this design is that is you run a motor hard, it heats up, and the heat on the shaft can melt the end cap and distort the hole where the shaft cames through.

    And that’s how I killed my EM38 Vanquish…..:dead:

IF I can ever get my 4.8V racer reigned in hopefully the air it should clear would be enough to sit down and have lunch within!

land speed, actuall speed, what ever you want to call it……. that’s what panda is saying. When he says “effective” this means the actual land speed the car will get with said gearing….

OK, manged to score my bro’s camera so here are some better shots of this beast…

    Current specs:

    pan style flat chassis
    BCG steering assembly
    BCG motor mount
    4 x 1.2V/50mAh NiCd
    49 Mhz clone PCB with TriStack(tm) FET’s
    Monster tyres
    Triple spring steering arm
    8.96:1 Gears
my verision of the Hog’s JBWled axle trick
    guitar string antenna
    custom “full flare” heatsink, lol
    TinyRC R-Spec motor

Here’s some clearer shots of the fets. Notice the layout of fets on this clone PCB is not like all the regular pcb’s. One thing though, the higher youstack the easier it gets as the fets start to clear the PCB.

This is my version of the axle slip fix made famous by Hog and his bloody JBWeld. Basically I get a piece of plastic and wedge it into the groove leaving enough space for the axle to turn freely. Once I’m happy I then dab a drop of super glue on the top and make sure it joins the sorrounding chassis plastic. I guess this way I can still remove the plastic later if I ever need to replace/repair the axles.

Now that I’m running 4.8V though the motor AND I have upgraded the current handling capacity of the H-Bridge (the fet triple stack we’re talkin’ here) the motor runs extremely hot! over 60 degrees C!. I’ve actually seared the end of a finger because I picked up the car by the heatsink after a solid 3+ minute run. So I made a custom heatsink from some clone heatsinks I had lying around. I gotta say it helps. The more you keep your motors cool, the longer they last.

If only I had made this heatsink earlier my precious (and only) EM38 Vanquish wouldn’t of died…… 🙁 .

Usually in mini Z’s we only modd the ESC side, because the FET on the motor side can supply plenty of juice to the tiny steering motor. So i guess its more of like a 3×2 stack for each the steering and Motor.:smiley16:

nah dude:dead:. The steering is not fet modded in the above pic. There are four fets that combine together to make the motor drive. On the mini-z there are two fets per micro-8 package, that’s why you only stack two actual components on the z pcb.. So it is still a 4×3 so blah!:smiley2:

What do you mean by hardcore? It’s all pretty basic and logical stuff.

    Fewer turns will result in:
    Increased current draw
    Increased power output
    Higher peak RPM
    Less torque

It should be noted that the difference between a 13 and 14 turn motor is more noticeable than the difference between an 16 and 17 turn motor. This is because the change in wire length becomes a greater percentage of the total length as turns decrease.

    Fewer strands will result in:
    more torque
more current draw (esp. bottom end)

    More strands will result in:
    Less torque (esp. bottom end)
    smoother top end power
    reduced current drain

I’m more interested in the theory and stuff….. Also, what’s the diff between turns and strands? that’s confusing…..

my family lives down south coast (Berry) 2 hours away from canberra and sydney so i get i few “explosives” sent to me occasionally. the most recent ones were a box of bungers that had 2 detonations in each one. we found a toad, pushed on its back so its mouth opened a little and stuffed it in its gob and lit it.

the first boom stunned and made it flip over, the second (and larger) explosion separated it into three sections! top of the head, front legs with bottom jaw attached and the rear legs!
    funniest sh!t i ever seen…

that’s some funny sh1t right there dude, you sicko! lol…..
