Yeah piano wire is way too thick. I raided my old man’s piano shop on the weekend and sussed out all the gauges. Good for cutting cheese though, lol!

leonli17, try toyeast.com they have repair parts, might be cheaper than rcmod.com.

    Cheers,

Yeah, radioshack. You can buy them online for $19.95 USD (not inc shipping) from http://www.radioshack.com. They have some nice old 70s muscle car shells as well.

ph2t, my guess is that one of two things will happen……
    1. The steering magnet will be attracted to the steel center in the steering magnet and will lock on. and / or…

    Sh1t, I didn’t even think of that!

Re steering improvement, an N channel FET replacement of the steering transistors makes the steering ultra strong.

Yeah I was going to try that, what increase in strength did you see? Could the steering handle an extra centering spring now you reakon?

When the car is placed on the charger all those funtions do work, but when I release it from the charger the car is totally dead.

Tracky, this sounds like the charging contacts / battery contacts problem. Look at them in detail on the chassis and/or post pics if you can. It’s sounds like the batt’s not charging, replacing with a new batt makes it more confusing as well. Check the polarity of the batt, you did put it in the right way? (Sorry to insinuate here, but the ques needs to be asked)

If you’re just looking at the animated GIF then it plays back slower than the real thing. View the AVI’s, they show it at the correct speed.

    Hey Micro, check this out.

    2502_rds.jpg

If you apply 1-2V to the gate of the irlml2502 FET, you are getting about 0.045 Ohms resistance. If you apply about 4V to the gate you can get this resistance down to about 0.03 Ohms. That’s why I use the 5V DC converter in my design, to really “turn on” the FET. Whilst the FET is in circuit I suggest you take some voltage readings at the gate and see what you’re getting. Let me know.

    Cheers,

The only real garuantee of getting a perf 3.8 is to purchase them from toyeast. If they are the same speed as your bensu clones then they are prolly only 2.2 -> 2.8, the four bensu’s I’ve bought had motors in this performance range.

The problem has to do with the fact that the voltage difference between zero and 100% duty is bugger all. I think (can’t remember) that the voltage varied between 1.2 -> 1.8V at the input of U1D and U2A. It needs a low resistor to get the sweep of accuray to control this small voltage difference.
