After exhausting opportunities to get more IRF7317 in stick within Australia through Australian distributers (meaning 6+ weeks) We’ve bitten bullet and ordered direct from IRF (Manufacturer) Stock should arrive in 7-10 days.

Yep – MRC (http://www.mrcmodelcarparts.com.au) is the way to go for HPI stuff inside Australia.

He’s genuinely a nice guy and has a great range in stock at good prices considering he’s running as a proper legit business (ie he pays Tax etc).

I can’t speak with authority except to say that it’s yet another version of the HPI RS4 platform.

The platform itself seems to be very very good, and has been adpted from Mini > 1/10 > Rally > Truckish with most people finding them to be great for the price etc.

In other words tried and true and very likely to make anyone happy 😉

The good news is that IRF7317s are tough as ph2t has proven… And that we’ve just ordered direct from IRF (no more stuffing about with Australian Distributers) enough 7317s to cover the pent up demand.

They should be here in 7-10 days

Antennas were not paid for in final calculations as they were out-of-stock at time of order.

I must have misread the bit about 2 sets of wide, but it’s no problem to swap.

The heatsink – my bad there, I found the blue one sitting on the floor where I packed the box yesterday.

If you can give me an address in Gosford I’ll Express Post the tyres and Heatsink there?

I’ll include a prepaid to get the ‘wrong’ set back to me….

A couple of tips too:

On the drain side (motor terminal) of the stack use solder to ‘bridge’ the 4 legs, into two thicker more solid legs! This has two benefits, it’s a bit physically stronger and it does have a reasonable amount of heat-sinking improvement.

Also if you’re really keen like ph2t is you could possibly mount a heatsink (using a non-conductive glue) to the top of the stack, just don’t bridge the legs, it does wonders for heat management.

Lastly, The stock of IRF7317s we just sold out of was the last reasonably priced supply in Australia. We’re chasing more but there may be a slight price rise, up to the IRF7389 pack ($25) level to counter this.

At the moment I don’t have full Monster sets in stock – but int he new year will be getting a new bulk load of bearings.

I can do a set of wheel bearings (front and required rears) though which does make things a bit nicer.

Pricing is always variable becuase ausmicro.com (ie the business) doesn’t put any form of retail margin on the items. So it wavers with exchange rates etc, but typically you’ll pay less than if you arranged a small TE purchase yourself.

Not my money 😉 Our money 🙁 But either way in about 6 e-mails we’ve got it sorted as best possible and the box is on the way.

TE I find are pretty good at getting stuff sent, just the accepting payment (24+ hours for PayPal) and getting stuff packed… Most of our wait was becuase of IW02/IW04 bits that only officially released on the 9/10.

You’re right too I did let the buy run a long time in the hope that we’d get stuff before xmas (and most will) but it also was a risk 🙁

Those wonderful people at TE just e-mailed me this afternoon to say they were out of stock of something in the order, despite it being in stock when I ordered it, when they confirmed pricing and when they got our money.

*groans* 6 days and they’re only packing the freaking box now!

It’s correct when used to manufacturers specs. Whilst we only focus on working ability and RDS(on) there’s more at play including getting enough gate voltage to properly switch the devices, if the switching circuitry is average then the FETs themselves will not perform to spec.

I’d guess that the Mini-Z electronics doesn’t switch fast enough to control the FETs correctly and that causes them to suffer more load/heat stress than is desirable. I woudl think moving to matched FET drivers (like Nelly 1.3?) will get around this..

Yikes, now there’s a SH!T pair of FETs!

With internal resistance of about 210mOhms – basically double that of a IRF7389, and MORE THAN THREE times higher than the IRF7317 these iWaver Pro’s are not going anywhere fast.

The internal resistance means that those puppies are going to overheat (the dissipation ph2t mentions) real quick…

I doubt they’re using great FETs, the heat load due to high internal resistance being a problem.

I would think that a pair of IRF7317s or a mini-FET swap, or a full on Nelly will wipe the floor with TE FETs.

Has anyone gotten part numbers off their FETs or the 16pin TSSOP yet?
