    Wow!

I ended up identifying the above as a Kyosho Spider Mk2.

I’ve got 3 of them now – around 20 years old – restored to near new condition.

It’s been a tough learning curve. I haven’t touched much/any Radio Control in ages and everything has just come so far. You remember back when programming the radio gear meant “sticking in a Crystal”? Well now it’s all this fancy micro-controller and 2.4Ghz voodoo magic. I’m not complaining. Really.

    Anyway how’s the build going?
I assembled the basics of the frame. Then discovered the props in the motor set were too long. So I re-assembled the frame. It does have two options for the deck positioning. This is letting me work out the final wiring plan because I want to make it neat – at least once.

I’ve subsequently sourced smaller props, but will keep the underslung design as I think it looks kinda cool as well.

I’ve grabbed 4 spare sets of props (Thanks to a Hobbyking deal I scored them for like $0.31 a pair!)

Bit the bullet and programmed the latest “Steveis” Firmware onto the flight control. Went flawlessly so pretty happy about that.

Going to Japan in May this year. Will naturally be trying to have a look around at the Mini-Z stuff. Never really found much beyond the newer Readysets on visits to Malaysia and Singapore previously…

Will try and update this post and info 🙂

Very glad to hear there’s still groups “out there” and doing stuff.

It’s why I’ve brought the forum back so there’s at least some tech stuff still kicking around as the cars get older etc.

I’ve got a few weeks off over Christmas and may still some batteries in my collection and give them a run – see if the tyres aren’t all flat spotted!

And just over 10 years later we fold 1/18th back in with all the larger scale R/C. It will make the forum slightly easier to navigate and manage, plus we’re obviously not getting the posting traffic we used to.

Well just keep an eye on the Forums and on the main site http://ausmicro.com – Not saying the Spider is back in production yet but I am getting things back together to make the final run.

OK Quick post – you’ll have all noticed that we’ve been far more stable again – I’ve basically sorted out day-to-day personal cash flow issues enough to be pre-paying our hosting – and worked with our hosts to move to a lower cost plan etc.

You’ll all also notice that there’s a few “broke” things around here and in order to fix them I do need to pony up some $$ for the newest vbulletin software and then re-work it all.

To cover that I will be building a small run of Spider v4 and selling them.

Yeah I’ve got over 100 PCBs and the parts to make about 20 or 30 straight up. I am only just unearthing all the ausmicro.shop stock from when I packed it up back in August 2008 – still need to set up a work area and all that.

Goal at the moment is to work out what I’ve got – where it is and then build up a smal stock of assembled Spider v4 and sell a few to buy the latest upgrade for the vBulletin software and pre pay a few months of hosting for the site. From there we’ll see how I feel 🙂

I expect some progress on this in the coming weeks.

Where ohh where do I begin?

First of all I’m flattered that after some 12 months of negligible activity that there are some people still active enough to have an opinion about the forums.

For my own part I will admit that for the past 18 months I’ve been offline and spending time well away from here. There are reasons for this, some you would all understand and others you would not. I will go into that seperately at another time as my experiences may help others (or solve insomnia).

Firstly I’d like to address the offer Matt (ph2t) and Betty.K are proposing. There is a large part of me that had this question been asked 12 months ago would have said yes, hell yes, but to be honest the complexities of trying to hand over everything (combined with the “cost”) are probably well above the amount that I’d be prepared to ask or expect to have taken on. I will be in touch with these fine gents privately to discuss things though.

Secondly I feel I need to address a lot of the “Where’s my order, Aaron is a theif” allegations that have been posted here. I’m not living it up on a beach in the tropics. Essentially ausmicro.com was targetted by a very organised group of fraudsters who started placing orders, having items shipped out and then lodging “non-delivery” claims through PayPal. As PayPal will only accept Online-Trackable postage methods (which are cost prohibitive to use outside of Australia and on our vendor-ship-direct Readysets doesn’t work) despite having significant “proof” to the contrary PayPal started pulling funds back out of the account.
My only solution at the time was to simply stop shipping items and close down. Unfortunately (and it was an honest mistake) the off-button in the Shopping Cart software didn’t actually turn anyting off except the return path from PayPal. So people were still able to order things, but the software wasn’t being told by PayPal that a paid order had been processed. This meant I wasn’t being told about orders, and thanks to the joys of my other circumstances wasn’t checking well enough to be on top of the situation.

So for the past 3 months I’ve been working through the records on-and-off and have pretty much worked out who was legit (and if they’ve already been refunded) and who wasn’t. There’s no “Cash” sales or Money Order sales affected by this and I think there still may be 1 or 2 people who didn’t get a refund from PayPal when they should have. If they contact me again I will work with them to arrange a solution.

Posts relating to this will be moved to a hidden (private to myself and the moderators) forum and dealt with appropriately.

Lastly I’d like to thank those who have stayed, those who have expressed their feelings and hope that ausmicro.com will be a part of their future no matter who is at the helm.

The pics are taken direct from iWaver when we list their products sometimes there’s mix-ups with colour etc- we ship based on the written description of the catalog item.

Be quick if you want them becuase once they’re gone we won’t be restocking them..

Jimmy, you’re best just waiting and ordering it when you can complete the transaction in one go. These will be in-stock (or at worst a week delay if we’re waiting for bits) right through until they get updated (probably 6 months away).

My personal feeling is that you’re always better off using better FETs (9934, 4562, SP8M4) in place of the stock FETs.

2×2 is the best combo of performance and “easy”, but even just as a stock replacement 1×1 you get massive improvements in performance, run times and all that.

3×2, 4×2 and 5×2 are all awesome but are progressively harder to build up and can affect throttle response etc…

I sell 10 packs becuase it’s a good number to do a few cars so people can race with matching electronics. (and most people who fiddle with their electronics have more than one car!)

*nods* The SP8M4 FETs are extremely good and really close up the gap between larget FET stacks (which traditionally reduce throttle sensitivity and great some nasty drive qualities) and the External H-Bridge setups like the Spider.

It’s a great way to bring a “stock” car to life with a simple (and cheap) 2×2 stack.

Turbos will be in the FETs and Turbos section once we have the teething problems sorted.

I’ve been told to expect the boards in 7-14 days now, so here’s hoping it’s a good production run for the fabricators with no more failures.

    Hi All,
So far we’ve had some problems with the manufacture of the v4.0 boards. Our fabricators have had problems accurately spliting the boards once made due to their size – most people don’t make boards this small. I’ve made a few changes to the design and we’re waiting for another test run..
