Hi guys, sorry about my previous comments.. there isnt a “white” coloured motor… my girlfriend must be colour blind.. lol.
oh by the way, Derek… Parramatta Westfields K-Mart… i found aCompact Char-g!! its pretty funny actually,there was only one and the box had been opened and someone had stolen the tyres and the shell.. the motor and chasis were still there, funny since they are the best parts.. especially after reading the above posts(they are apparently better than the Bit Char-g’s..) if only for spare superior parts… the thief must of been stupid.
hopefully they will restock soon… only saw the one “ravaged” box.

Compact Char-G (not Bit Char-G – This is the Australian and European version that is slowling becoming available at certain retail outlets, just got it today)

No cripple capacitor found.
Is there any other way I can increase the range? It’s not pathetic, but it coul definitely be better. How far does that car antenna replacment mod increase the range by?

Great news! I finally found them after looking for several days, there were a whole bunch of them (about 12 I think) at K-mart Bankstown, but for some strange reason they were located behind the lay-by counter, instead of on the toy shelves.
I saw them from a distance after thinking that I wouldn’t find them again, and there they were! Gleaming!
So, I bought that Honda S2000 (silver) after looking at both (there were only two: The S2000 in silver or yellow and the blue or white Skyline GT-R) for long while.
I’m so happy I finally found it!! But there is a slight problem with mine, I don’t know about the others. Sometimes when I try to reverse, it just doesn’t work, it *looks like* it’s trying to revere, but it just doesn’t and going forward works fine. What’s weird is that everything works perfectly if i race it around without the fancy shell, but once i put it back on, the probelem is back. Also, when it actually does reverse, it usually stutters. I”ll have to post this in the technical section.
So the moral to this story is, if you look hard enough you’ll find what you want (i.e. look on the back wall behind the layby counter at your local K-mart)!

A much easier way to get 25+ minutes of runtime is to switch to an NiMH battery. There is no modification necessary except to replace your rechargeable NiCD with a rechargeable NiMH of the same size. 3 consecutive charges on your Tomy controller yields about 25 minutes of runtime. No soldering necessary!

If you puta second battery in and wire up in parallel instead of serial this should double the drive time, you’ll also need to charge it for longer. Connect the positive of the internal battery to the positive of the external battery, and negative to negative too.
Apparently we aren’t using the batteries to their max capacity, someone (forget who, sorry) reportedly peak charged a single battery, took 30 minutes and the car ran for near 40 minutes.
One custom mod I’d love to do is make a limo and fit it with two AAA’s (extend the wheelbase of the car somewhatlike the 3 battery mod), that way you can take them out and charge them in a normal charger, you could also wire them inparallel for drive time (I think you’d get bored after an hour…) or in series for speed.

Is removing the cripple cap. easy? I dont want to screw up my Bit, If i mess up i think i will S**t myself. do you have to cut the wires at a certain area or does it not matter? Do i have to use a soldering iron or can i just clip it with wire cutters?
Having been workign on a similar mod, (1/64 scale body mod) somewhere in this forum… I have a few suggestions. The steerign block is relatively easy o redesign, so is the radio/battery pan, but the motor block on the other hand is probably the most demanding part of the mod on accuracy alone. Too loose, and the gears chatter, too tight and you get bad speed. So far I’ve been chopping out the stock motor block in all the variants I’ve been making, even in the glider concept I was doing, and securign this to the chassis directly.
On the topic of materials, I personally wouldn’t suggst lucite- you’ll end up with a heavier body than the stock, and more brittle, and less costomizable. Check your local hobby and art stores for plastic resin molding kits that come with mixtures for silocone molds and resin compound. It won’t be anywhere near as strong as the plastic the cars come with but it’ll be probably your best bet unless you go to have it professionally molded.
Also, I haven’t tried the dual battery mod, but I’ve found the 2.2 motor on single charge plenty fast for scale speeds. at the speeds the videos of the dual battery cars seem to indicate it seems as though you’re approaching scale speeds of over 100-200 mph… which in terms of drivng in real life is difficult, let alone in mini seems to rather limit these cars to use as a “drag” or “secret weapon” car… much like swapping motor cores from a 3.0 with a 2.2… I’m not sure the point, but I do wonder if there’s been much thought to setting up some international competition rules.. weight minimums, rpm limits, battery voltages, etc.
Ok whater- check out my mod in the meantime.. it’s going slow but I might have a few decent options for getting magnesium or plastic redesigned bodies made pretty soon.

Well i registerd at toyeast and checked my order, but i quess since i didn’t order it through the web site, i orderd it off ebay, that they dont track that order. Im begining to grow impacient.
Correction – the motor is the yellow end bell – the 2.2 I beleive.

Got two of them today – both 27 MHZ – in canberra.
I was a bit of a tightarse – I went on friday night – they had 12 in stock then – however I decided to wait until today to purchase – as they are in the catalouge for 44.89……..guess what – I got the last two!! I was there at 9am !!
There are currently only two cars – the Skyline in BLUE AND WHITE – and the HONDA S2000 – in silver and yellow. Blue and yellow are both 40 MHZ – the silver and white are 27 MHZ.
The motors supplied are the yellow endbell 2.6 (I think that is right)………
All I can say is that they SMOKE – very quick – and the steering is far superior to the other 4 cars I have (two oem’s – and two tomy)……
Just why they are better than the other two Japanese sourced genuine tomy’s is I dont know – the magnets in the steering are VERY strong compared to my other two……strange.
All I can say is is that they are just awesome – and worth every cent !! Now we dont have to worry about international shipping or customs……..
Given the sellout so quickly of these cars – I am sure that there will be many more models to choose from…….at my local KMART – there were 25 other customers on the waiting list when I went back later in the day to place another “order”……

Got the switches did the swap love the brakes!!
I couldnt find pcb switches so I just bought some that are still pretty small and have it comming out the top of the controller much easier than the stock position. Pics comming soon.
Currently the ones I’ve built so far use only char-g parts, with a but of filing, cutting, and a lot of tenex.
I could post a how-to if more people are interested, as I’d rather not disembowl another car, even if it is a knockoff.
In regards to my current plan, I’ll be starting the actual building of the thin metal chassis tomorrow probably- first model in the char-g formfactor, so that it can be raced with a normal body. afterwards I’ll probably build one more test in the 1/64 scale before doing more research on finding a manufacturer.
of course there’s still the issue of bodies, but some simple 2-part molds should simplify that.
I did some tests with the johnny lightening wheels and was sadly disappointed- anything over a 1.0 motor spins out immediately, and the 1.0 does it reguarily too.
If anyone has a better solution for Scale 1/64 wheels and tires, I’d be greatly interested.

SwissArmy, as long as you put the order number in the subject part when you sent the money by PayPal it should be ok – that’s all the information they need to know you’ve paid.
It is normal that you don’t get a confirmation email to say your order was shipped, they avoid doing that to keep costs low, but on the site you can login and check your order(s) to see if they received the money and when the order(s) was posted. Ignore the estimated time to arrive dates, I found them to be about 5-7 days out in my experience (the last two packaged arrived ‘early’)
Still no reply to my query over the broken motorbikes, this is starting to tick me off, I guess the $180 I’ve spent with them so far doesn’t count for much… :smiley6:
I saw a commercial for the Char-G on Friday morning in amongst the kiddie shows, and I bought one the very same day at KMart, Broadway (NSW) for about $49. I got a blue Skyline GT-R, and there were 3 left – 2 Honda S2000 and another Skyline, IIRC.
From what I’ve seen, mods are only limited by your imagination and your fear factor (prabbit has a very low fear factor :smiley2:). Of course, these are the unofficial mods.

I got one just because it is a WRC Impreza. It’s ok, but I like my Bit Char-G’s better. I find them easier to control, but the iRacer is faster. I don’t have a DigiQ, so I can’t make that comparison. If you really want one, I’d go on eBay. They’re much cheaper there.

Gd on ya Guyver, I’m looking to get another one for my gf.The KMartpersonel I spoke to said he wasn’t sure when they were coming in at Morley. Wonder why they have it in the catalogue but not in the store!!
I’m also making a track with thin MDF which I bought from bunnings for $2.50.Grip is good and it’s cheap!!!

we managed to find a blue r34 one in k-mart in carousel today, it was the last of how every many they had. We bought it sorry 😛
K-mart staff were unable to tell me where any others were located throughout all of their branches.
Toys-R-Us in Perth City also has none of them, neither did K-Mart at the Galleria in morley. We tried K-Mart in Maddington, but it closed a few minutes before we got there 🙁
