yeah i must admit i am concerned about any ill feelings. i guess some of the younger crew want to treat it like a site war which is not my intention. i support the straight comp idea, with teams from anywhere, i just suggested the “vs” idea for a bit of fun. i forgot that some people may take it a little too seriously.
bilbo, sorry, didn’t read ya post properly!:blush: but ya still a half pint!:p:8ball:while the enertec pcb has some good qualities; good range, fets in the drive circuit, there are too many drawbacks. pcb is 50%longer than a bcg, boost only when going straight forwards. i don’t use these pcb’s any more. i’d go a fetted pcb without a doubt, even a stock one over an enertec. great chassis’ though:8ball:

i think mailing stuff around the globe won’t present any probs, apart from time delays and risk of loss/damage.

re worldwide comp; how about 4 teams. aus, usa, europe, asia.that way it won’t get out of hand with too many entries. whatever we decide we do need to limit the number of entries. and if an aussie wants to be part of a us team and vice versa then i reckon that should be allowed. i’m trying to unite people, not divide.
definately some sort of trophy or at least a certificate to the winner, the most valuable component being the prestige/bragging rights
i think it would be ok for entrants to judge, so long as their own entry is given a default score. i’d certainly judge each entry for what it’s worth, i’d like it to be fair, in fact i think it would be difficult to accurately judge my own work:8ball:this is probably gonna be the official discussion site, so i’ll paste ph2t’s post here too. he makes some good points
Some thoughts:
1) This could end up way too huge and become a beast unto itself. Why don’t we have teams independant of which site. Perhaps somthing like this:
A) Each team consists of 3 members.
B) Each members role can be figured out within the team.
C) Each team must make visible to the rest of the forums what team member did what. (no easy ride for those slackas!)
D) Team members aren’t site dependant. IE: Example team members: ph2t, crazydave & brendan123. (Just an example kiddies!!!)
E) You can only be a member of one team, period!
F) Team memberships are final once the comp has started.
–i) No teams can change members during the comp.
–ii) Team members are made visible at begining of comp.
–iii) If a member drops out for personal reasons, that’s OK.
–The team concerned may still continue but no more additions to the
–team would be allowed.
G) Each team will have a group name identifying that team.
H) One entry only per team. 1/64 scale cars only.2) Keep the scope of the competition relatively small. Just make one site the main comp site! Eg:Bitpimps or Ausmicro. Discussions about the entries could be at many other sites. This shouldn’t matter. But the official stuff should be kept on one site.
3) Keep the deliverables of the competition simple and clear. Eg, what the judging criteria would be. Limit to no more than 10 points and each points is valued on a point scale of 1 – 5 say.
4) Judging could only be done by the teams that enter. With one simple rule, you cannot judge your own entry. Make the format similar to the Euro Music comps or World Idol.
–A) Every team judges other Teams entries only.
–B) Judging based on scope set in point 3
–C) Results submitted to official thread. This way it is visible
–to all parties.
–D) When it comes around to judge your own team’s entry you
–automatically get the max results for judging critereon set in point 3.
–E) Results are totaled up and winner is found.5) Prizes. This one can be tricky. Maybee we just make the simple rule that the winning team gets the cred it deserves! Nothing more, nothing less. I’m personally happy with that. I’m sure a lot of teams would consist of seasoned members that aren’t fly-by-nighters and they see the true value in being judged by their peers and the recognition that placing in the top three would mean.
6) Timeline. Set the timeline with a few distinct stages.
–Stage 1: Team setups.
–Stage 2: Submission into offical thread of Team memberships.
–Stage 3: Competition begins. Team memberships is now final.
–Stage 4: Between Stage 3 and Stage 5 Teams submit their entry.
–Stage 5: Competition closes and Team voting begins.
–Stage 6: Voting closes.
–Stage 7: Voting is counted and 1st, 2nd & 3rd places are announced.Can you tell I’ve done a bit of project management in my time? lol….

i only visit ausmicro and bitpimps, so could people that frequent other sites spread the word?:8ball:i’m a member at bitpimps as well, and i agree with aaron. i wouldn’t want this to go any further than friendly rivalry. obviously dual members will have to pick a site to align themselves with for the purpose of this comp, but other than that we’re all united as micro rc fans
re the trophy idea, i was thinking of a real one, say a bit mounted on a stand painted gold, and make it like the america’s cup trophy. this could be an annual event, winner holds the trophy for a year.:8ball:Edited by – betty.k on 21 January 2004 21:58:01
i think the prize should be some sorta trophy. maybe we can burn a bit and make an ashes type trophy!:8ball:
as far as who’s in the teams iguess you could just form one. or have a poll as to who we want representing us.
someone other than a pimp or ausmicro member will have to do the judging:8ball:it would be an even better prize for a comp!:p can’t really split the end result 3 ways! or a 4 way donated prize; 1 person buys the car, 1 mods the chassis, 1 mods the body, and 1 mods the electronics! or have a best of the best, pimps vs ausmicro mad mod cup! hang on, i’m starting a new topic!!:8ball:

i’ve got a dragon micro x tech tank, and while it’s not really micro (120mm, 4 1/2 inches) or fast. in fact it’s real slow, but it really drives well and clears obstacles to scale and then some! range is a measly 8 – 10m, no ir war games, but you get a really good charger that is perfect for charging nimh and nicad batt’s properly. takes 4 x AA, and has a bit of charging curcuitry under the hood allowing optimum charge. i’ve installed a dc in socket and bcg charging plate to mine, and it takes twice as long to charge my cars, it’s a quality charge. so i’m very happy with my purchase.
as for the digi q, i don’t own one because it’s just too much to spend on something i just want to drive around. but they do look pretty amazing, a lotta features jammed in those little buggers!:8ball:Edited by – betty.k on 19 January 2004 18:40:16
