hahah, I just had a look under the tyres.
I suffer from domestic blindness … It would have taken me another 6 months to discover that.
I was running one around the foyer at work today.
Every guy that passed by had to stop and check it out. Those that didn’t I now suspect are gay.
I have a very large flat space where I’m working tomorrow. They’re going to get a good workout.
    😀

Nar, you have to high side them to get out of the corner. The wheels are really really small, just slightly bigger than a 5 cent piece, so sticking anything on the inside of them would be a challenge. If you’re at half speed, they take a second or two to stabalise and sometimes they don’t make it. Giving them a handfull of herbs they take about a second to stabalise, but it you don’t have a lot of space, you’ll be on the wall very quickly.

They’re made in Malaysia, so that will be the cheapest place to buy them followed by singapore.
You might like to search for hobby shops there.
I’ve got the address and phone number of a shop there that will ship them, give me a couple of days to look through my stuff and find the business card. If there are enough people interested, I’ll see if I can get a wholesale price for them. They cost $80-85 retail in Malaysia, and their hobby shops are twice as expensive as australia for most items.

I don’t remeber… but if you give me a day or so, I’ll pop in and have a peek, might just buy one and store it for later abuse. It’s only small, about 20cm long and 10cm wide with a single thruster engine.

You forgot the small nuclear fusion reactor to power it. Just add a drop of water and away you go. I have a paypal account that I don’t mind paying for things, but you might like somebody who is more local to you. I’m in sydney.

Heheheh.. I got mine to do a small wheelie today… I ran it off a small ledge between the concrete slabs. Not much to talk about.. just for a fraction of a second before it hit the ground, death wobbled, then stabalised.
I still have a 749 that a friend hasn’t picked up yet. I’ve told him he has until friday night else somebody else may want it.
All the bikes go the same speed.

yeah, add it to the list of … “things to do.”

At the moment, it’s all hands on deck for my foamie 737. Then I just got to find me some space to fly the sucker !

Yes, I’ve done the same thing, high sided and gone bum over boobs. 🙂 I’m slowly learning how to recover from the death wobbles. The obvious one is a handfull of arseholes. But you can also
get the rider to knock the resonance out of the wobble if you’re quick or lucky.
1:1 scale, I haven’t been unlucky or silly enough to have that happen, except for a time a car turned across three lanes and I did a lovely inverted startfish through the air, bounced a few times and came to rest with my helmet almost against the front wheel of an ambulance.
First response to the ambo was.. “Wow, you got here quick !”
Lucky the little robot is wearing a helmet else he could really get hurt !

    Excellent !!!
I’m actually keen to get my hands on more of them myself, especially different models with different frequencies.
Despite having 2 I’m still not keen to open them up either, they’re just way too much fun.
How’d you measure the speeds ? I got the feeling from driving them, that there was about 4 speeds, but this might just be my imagination. Most of the time I’m backed off from high speed else I end up in the wall. (I need more space)
But I also seem to be able to rider slower,
but more prone to death wobbles, and really slow
I can do U turns in about 30cm, and sometimes stop on the footpegs. Taking off from the footpegs is funny, shake the rider and the rear wheel grabs and away you go.
I’d REALLY like to get some video footage of it from a vehicle traveling alongside, or running it on something like a treadmill if that was possible. Would be really cool.

2.4V … Mmmmmm… the thought of more speed is sooo tempting. Little minga’s would be awesome.

    I had a idea today.
Big W had the larger RC hovercraft on sale the past week for $90, they are now back to $140. Doh ! But looking around in their toy section I found another small hovercraft for $12 !!
It isn’t RC, it has a control lead, but 30 seconds ripping that off and replacing it with a BCG brain and you’re in business !

Did yours arrive today uA ??
I’m thinking of going up the road and hiring a squash court to run them in. Despite sweeping my garage floor, there always seems to be some dirt or something rough on the floor that trips them up. Latest crazy amoung my friends is demolition bike rally, last bike running is winner.

actually, I saw a clone bit 4WD in hong kong.
Sadly it was on my first day, and I didn’t stop to look at it in detail. Off course when I returned to the same place the next day to get one they were nowhere to be seen. DOH !!!
The chassis was raised and they were in their plastic bubbles but I can’t trust my memory as to where the gears were. I’d like to think that I remeber gears on both front and rear wheels, but
when you’re on malaria drugs, your dreams and reality become a little mixed up.
Without photos or one in my hands, I can’t even be sure that I actually even saw them for real ?
    🙁

I had a friend over tonight and we were running them around the garage trying to race them.
They seem really hard to run on a track.. you just can’t get them to do what you want. But change it to just a flat open surface and all of a sudden, you can drive them with such precission
you can knock another bike over, (It is really difficult to make two bikes collide.) and I can now manage to do a 180 deg turn in less than 30cm. And still I can’t seem to keep it on a simple M shaped track.
The best way to run one is to stand in the center of a circular track and run the bike around you like a control line plane and you can watch the bike in close detail.
I also realised tonight that the footpegs actually have little wheels on them.
I thought they were only washers for the riders feet but the bike can land on the footpegs if it is moving slow enough. At first it was really hard to get the bike to stop upright, I can now do it with some sort of regularity. Starting off from this position I can get it runnning by giving it throttle and shaking the rider. If you don’t shake the rider, the wheel doesn’t have enough pressure on the ground to get traction.
(You’re going to love the authentic looking wheel tread.)
I also had problems with carpet fluff in the front wheel bearing today… it gives the bike a bad case of death wobbles. Low battery also causes wobbles, but I find I can get a good 20min
run time when the bike is fully charged.

I’m itching to see what discovers you make.

not with that exact clone, but with something very similar.
Big W has a Holden clone series. It seems quite good quality straight out of the box. It has a trigger grip with the steering control on the side. The funny thing is that this controler works fine with my iRider Nikko/digiQ motorcycle.
(which has the control on the rear.)

if you have a crazy clarks, or go-lo, or just about any big $2 shop. Somewhere that sells lots of dirty cheap plastic chinese rubbish.
They’re selling for about $17, and Ireckon that’s a bit of a rip off considering they’re broken out of the box.

    My evil idea is …
put a box in a populated shopping mall, with a sign …. ‘don’t look in here’ .. with a viewer thing in a box. A xeneon flash tube with an ausmicro template. Person puts their head on the viewer… >>FLASH<< .. we burn it into their retinas !! ….. oh right … sorry… a legal activity.. Mmmmm… get back to ya'll. 👿

go-lo in parramatta has them, I’ve also seen them in a few other shops too now.
I got one yesterday. Unfortunately they look like the rejects from china. They hold no charge, pitiful range and the motor is almost cactus out of the box. I changed the electrix with a car I canabilised and now it works ok.

you’ve probably also seen the smaller version.
It has the same nacells, motors and props, but the fuselage is much smaller and the wings are round profile and swept up instead of folded like this plane. This one has lots of thrust and it can climb very quickly. The smaller one must really kick arse. I would have got it, but I just liked the look of this one more.
It’s not exactly a beginner plan, as it requires a bit more skill just to keep it stable than the bigger electrics. My next electric is a 737. I was hoping to get it running before the weekend, but I haven’t been able to find my old 4ch radio.
    Doh !!
I see wings n things now has the 4 engine B52 electric. I was going to buy one in HK, but I had no space for it. They also have a ducted fan Mig-15 and F-86 Sabre. I was told it is was harder to fly, but they look like fun.

I’m now loading pics up to the webshots site. I just can deal with 15 pics anymore 🙂

oh yeah … I’ll get the camera now.
I flew it yesterday … amazing power to weight ratio for such a little plane.

It uses the same controller as the micro sub.

ah, I’d already put a pic on my members page…
I need more space for pictures !! 🙂

Has anybody seen any micro 4×4’s yet ?
I’m sure they’ll turn up somewhere.. I missed the chance to pick one up in HK and would like to
    fool around with one.
I didn’t get a close enough look to see how the steering was done because I thought they were only 2wd. doh !

I just looked at the rxer source code that I have written for the 16F84. It’s not finshed yet, but the project could just as easily be written for a PC using the printer port, either in asembler or even basic. IF somebody is interested, I’ll post the rxer code as it is now, there are still some lines of code to be written yet. The rx program is designed only to handle 8 cars and I was going to add an LCD display routine to it so that there is no need for a PC.

ah, finnaly found this thread again…

ok, you can find 16F84 pic chips in the jaycar catalog. They’re the chips this code is written for. It may just look like jibberish to most of you, but some people will see what is going on.
The timing will need some tweaking since I haven’t built and tested it yet. It’s LED switching times that will determine how fast it
can run. The delay time give other cars a chance to beacon too as two cars go through the sensor.

Basically, this source code is compiled and then loaded onto a pic chip. the pic chip is then put into a small circuit, in this case it will just has a LED and a few extra surface mount compontents.

I’m not sure what my work schedule is for then next 3 months, chances are I may have more work overseas, and thus not much time to tinker.
I may on the other hand be working in sydney for that time in which case it’ll be finished before xmas.
