There are three different valleys. The Grose Valley, Megalong Valley and Jamison Valley.

I took off from Blackheath lookout (about 3400ft ASL) The bombout paddock in the valley is 2400ft.
I picked up a thermal and climbed to cloud base which was about 6000ft ASL, broke through the inversion layer up to about 8500ft ASL over Blackheath town. I could have kept going to about 11000ft, but it was getting a little too cold and I didn’t have my gloves on.
I followed the highway north to Mt Victoria and then west over Victoria pass and then northwest along the ridge (I think it’s Mt Ovens ?)
I could have kept going to the next ridge to pick up lift, but I didn’t have a driver, so I turned SW and headed back to the Oberon turnoff where I could easily hitch a ride back to Blackheath.
I was flying my paraglider on that day. There were two hang glider pilots with me, one just scraped over Victoria pass and landed at Hartley, the other decided to try the run out to Lithgow. I didn’t see how far he got.

Keen to show you the site talldude when you get a few hours up on the coastal areas. Air is much smoother on the coast, it can get very rough inland like Blackheath. The thermals have a lot of power in them during summer.

You mean fast charged at 3 amps ? what about slow charging ? They sound like NiCd’s ?

Don’t forget to post a big message when you have a day, I haven’t been keeping track of this thread too well.

Can you explain a 1:10 pack a little for me ?
It just sounds like a hell of a lot of power to be charging anything with. Other than a big capacitor. 🙂

… and you said this was for charging batteries ??

    just popped mine open…
ok, I guess we do this logically. The batteries, should charge up and not really be in any part of the circuit to the tank.
If you charge the batteries up independantly, the tank works yes ?

This means, bot the batteries are fine and the tank circuit is basically ok.

When the tank is not ON, it should have the battery switch across the contacts. So lets check that it is actually getting power to the tank.
do you get a voltage on the solder pads on the board from the charging pads, when it is on the charger ?

If yes, then I suspect it is the switch itself is dicky or the PCB, in particular the plated through hole where the triangle and RU symbol is.

Check for the charging voltage at the hole and the switch itself.

That’s got to be a start.
I took a picture, but I can’t seem to find any file attachment here ? doh !

Yep, that’s what I was building up too.
Work out how much current you need. If it’s only milliamps, then just use one of those plugpack thingies. If you need about 1 amp, then a cheapy transformer and bridge rectifier, a handful of caps and a 7812.

If you want a few more herbs, then a slightly bigger transformer and a transistor in a common base arangement for your regulator and the 7812 as the voltage reference.

How many amps do you need ?

I prefer the older TV’s. I think they’re much easier to fix than the new ones. But in most cases they have common PSU capacitor problems, De-gausing thermistor failure, or flyback transistor.

It’s amazing how many TV’s I’ve found on cleanup days that just have a busted thermistor.
I only look for the big screen tv’s these days.
You can’t give the others away even if they’re working.

On a side note I used to fix microwave ovens as a kid, made a lot of money out of them. Again, these days I’m lucky to get $20 for a working one in good condition. I get more value out of entertainment in blowing them up. 🙂

Recently I needed a dryer, and the cleanup day provided me with 5 of them, after I discovered how simple they were inside.

Our old washing machine broke down… didn’t take long to learn what makes them tick either.
Water and electricity need a little bit of special attention.

But then again, microwaves and TV’s can bite those stupid enough to venture inside even when the power is turned off 🙂

ummm…. ok, time to try some silly idea’s.

stand back and try a zoom shot, or have somebody hold a magnefying glass for a shot.

looks like I’m going to have to get mine open.
Got any pointers for me ?

The circuit protection circuit sounds like what your trying to stuff around with. Switch modes require a load to work properly. Computer PSU’s really aren’t the thing to be using when you have such small loads like charging batteries.
(unless of course you have a rather huge bank of them).

There are lots of better options out there.

sorry, I haven’t had the chance to login lately.

Umm.. got to get my brains out of the jar I’ve been keeping them in the past week…
ummm…. I’m just considering the option of pulling my tank apart to see what is inside.
Do you have a close up photo of the PCB ? that might be the place to start.

8 AA batteries ?? … they fly out of the box…
literally. 🙂 spare parts are dirt cheap for them too.
I tape up all my wings and bits with fibre tape. It is a little bit of weight in return for a lot more strength.

The only thing I do recomend you do do, is put a piece of tape over the wing root screws. If you do hit the ground hard and they pop out, then you won’t lose them.

These planes are getting cheaper all the time, so keep your eyes out to see if you can get them cheaper than I can. Postage is the killer.

I’m trying hard to get word back to the manufacturer to make more frequencies.

I’ve seen tracks made out of all sorts of stuff.
In HK they just used a simple for of carpet which worked well. I’ve seen neoprene, lyno, even concrete tracks. Each requires a different set of tyres.
Soft tyres for the carpets, medium for the lyno’s and really hard for concrete. 🙂
Tracks with multiple surfaces are fun. Neoprene for the road and carpet for the grass. Even good old epoxy resin on the plywood covered in sand used to simular a gravel road. You can put it on smooth like it is graded or just slap it on for that cowpaddock feel 🙂

hahah …. have you tried any runway landings on a cricket pitch yet ? It’s harder than it looks.

Cloud base for an A40 ! wow … when I’m flying my hang glider at high adventure and I see an A40 go past, I’ll know you’re down there somewhere cavo 🙂 You see a big blue and yellow hangy chasing you, you’ll know it’s me 🙂

I’m thinking of a manouver like the star destroyer at the begining of star wars with the Correllian Corvett ? …. roll the music …. da da dada da dada da dada:|

See if you can get one to take off air craft carrier style using only the width of the pitch !!
A good trick for a windy day.

won’t be long before we’ll be doing combat. I was thinking streamers, but stuff it… I can see full on kamakazi combat happening soon 🙂

I think it’s time to pitch up some props with my heat gun…. we’re going to war !!!

$66. Sorry, John howard got 10% out of the last batch. I hope the next lot will be cheaper, and the spare parts are still the same.
I think I only have 49Mhz models at the moment.
I’ve been a bit slack/busy. I have enough spare fuselages and wings atm.

You’re the first I’ve heard of about the DSE batteries, usually it’s the other way, they die in the arse and have a short life. I’m not a big fan of NiCd’s. I use Alkalines and recharge them.
Problem is of course if I don’t keep an eye on them they cook the tiny NiMH’s. DOH !!!
