Yes I’ll be building the entire rig for the exact purposes of testing and publishing comparison performance information.
What a lot of modders (and ausmicro.com customers) want to know are things like how does part ‘X’ compare to part ‘Y’. For electronics, batteries, pinions and other parts. My biggest concern is how picking and choosing batteries can affect results, do a test of product ‘X’ with the crappy batteries, then test product ‘Y’ with a way better set to emphasise the difference.
I know there’s no-one selling stuff here that would be so shonky, but elsewhere who knows.
I aim to make the build design very simple, and easy for others to replicate. Especially the thingo to put on top of the Speed Checker. At around AUD30 they’re a terrific quick and easy comparison test tool.
The motor dyno project is likely to cost around $500 in parts to make, and then needs to have custom software written so it’s a way off yet….

The irony is the ausmicro.com project ’02 will look pretty similar on the surface…. Under the skin will be a little different.

Site Owner Guy.The Much Much more one…. Got a web reference for it? I picked up the Jaycar one today. 20A will be more than enough considering the ICE will run the Dyno jig I’m building at a voltage and current of my choosing 🙂 It’ll even charge batteries 🙂

Site Owner Guy.I would think the iWaver 04 is better (the old style 04). Just get a MZM set of alloy mounts and a MZM body . But you gett he LCD controller, oil shocks and everythign else is the same.
However the Firelap is closer to MZM overall.
The new iW04 is going to be interesting. If it ever lands

Site Owner Guy.For the Input side of the Duratrax ICE I’m going to ge me on of these from Jaycar (Cat Number: MP3078).
It’s a 20A 13.8V supply and is only going to cost $100 🙂 Nice 🙂

Site Owner Guy.The ‘Spider’ can handle up to 20v so that’s not a problem BUT your stock Mini-Z board is deigned to run at a MAX of 6v (4x AAA 1.5v Cells) and typically runs at 4.8v Pumping in 7.2v will likely cause problems with other components.
You are best off running a small regulated supply of 5v for the board if you go LiPo. ph2t is working on (around baby production) on a version of the Whoa Nelly that offers a regulated supply etc to run with LiPo installations safely.
Also if you’re considering going for more voltage than 7.2v (14.4?) you’ll probably want to investigate using motors built for 12v not the ‘stock’ style voltage ranges. PN make a pair of 12v 130 class motors that could be very interesting.
