Site Owner Guy.Depends on what you want to do – The modchip simply provides an alternative BIOS. A $30 Aladdin Advance is agreat becuase they’re cheap and work just fine. But you only get one BIOS in them at the time.
The Xeniums and SmartXX chips are cool becuase you can have multiple BIOSes and boot any one of them which in turn may enable different functionality in your xbox.
I have a Xenium in one xbox and a basic Aladdin type (OxChip) in the other.

Site Owner Guy.I’m working on coding a new competition Submission Engine.
Entries with a short caption will be uploaded. The display engine for the competition will allow a SINGLE vote to be cast by either a judge or by any member of ausmicro.com…
ie I’m building a Competition Package that will allow comps to be easily created, managed and scored.
It’s taking a little longer but shouldn’t be more than a week or two off.
The first Comp to run will be a “Open Slather” across all scales. You will only be able to submit a set number of pics.
The Competition will be judged by your peers – and while statistics on the tally will be made available no-one will know the placings until the Competition Ends.
Becuase I’m writing a complete system from scratch and becuase it will involve prizes etc I have to make sure it all works properly!

Site Owner Guy.In fact as it turns out I missed a couple of extra features that I had to hack and enable. It’s all working much better now.
e-mail shoudl also be more reliable when sent via the site as that got a bit of a reconfig as well to better support the iCal system.

Site Owner Guy.Basically we’re ‘getting what we pay for’….
I do have plans to improve this but it can’t happen overnight.
The problem seems to be the server load not the network link speed. ie I just downed the site and downloaded/uploaded the Database and it was exceptionally fast file transfer, but processing web requests seems to take a while.
The other thing is that your link to the internet and the path you provider takes to ausmicro.com can affect speed.

I would like to see this change in the future so we’re far more protected but well we just need to see how things go.

Site Owner Guy.It’s actually not anythign I’m doing. The timeouts are happening becuase the box that runs ausmicro.com is slightly ‘overloaded’ from time to time.
Unfortunately becuase we share the box with around (probably well over) 200 other sites it’s hard to point fingers.
I have costed moving to a ‘semi-dedicated’ server and it is in the pipeline if we can afford it.
