hey there big feller! nice to see you this side o’ the pond!

me personally is ok, but where my girlfriend lives is prime bushfire country.
on sunday she got the word that there was a fire 1 street away from her. she threw everything in the car and got the **** outta there! fortunately the fire was extinguished quickly and she has a home to go to.

but this is our worst ever bushfire season on record, at the present there are 170 people dead and most likely more to come. some of the areas decimated are places i’ve been, it’s kinda heartbreaking to know that there’s nothing but a pile of ash remaining. entire towns have been destroyed.

i know it’s hard to imagine over there but picture a sky full of fire, not smoke but fire. that’s the last thing most of those casualties saw.

we are putting together a bushfire fund at work, i suggest anyone that reads this do the same.

    check this chit!

one of the amazing things is the people fighting the fires are members of the cfa (country fire authority).
they are all volunteers. mad props ladies and gentlemen

thanks for thinking of us dt:topstuff: :8ball:

right now, my first choice would be buy stuff from renton. he’s got some tasty parts for sale and i guarantee they’d be cheaper than new:

as for comercial shops you can look at rcmart/dinball:
    http://www.rcmart.com/catalog/default.php

and toyeast has a limited selection too:

    there’s also atomicmods (i don’t have a link, use the googles;) ) :8ball:

Is the regulator to protect the servo from the high voltage of the lithiums?

    correct

This would not solve me heat problem of the V2 would it?

correct again, i guess it wasn’t such a good idea after all! doh! :8ball:

i’d go for the sheilded bearings. ceramics are overkill and open ones will wear out quicker.

if i was looking for xmods i’d start on ebay or if you have a friend in the u.s. get them to go shopping for you :8ball:

i’ve had a go of the drift light cars, they’re great fun and don’t really need any hop ups. for the money you wanna spend i’d say they’re the best choice. :8ball:

you’re dealing with multiple factors, when you up the voltage you push the electronics harder then adding a hot motor pushes it even further. hence the heat.

no one knows what’s happening with the ausmicro shop other than orders placed aren’t being carried out. :8ball:

i’d go for an xmod evo.

you’re correct about what to buy to drift. and the best simple upgrade for any rc is bearings. :8ball:

i lashed out and bought an iw02m for my girlfriend’s son to race with.
i also bought a ball diff, bearings, a cf top plate and steve generously threw in a full set of atomic 10deg tyres.

the quality is really good with all the stock and hopup parts, the only exception being the wheels which were a little wobbly. so i just used a set of kyosho rims from an autoscale body set.

electronically it’s rock solid, no jittery steering and a decent radio to boot! can’t wait to do some test laps on the track! :8ball:

    yeah, what he said;)

miniz’s are designed to run on 4.8 – 6V so any more will cause things to warm up.

one solution is to wire the cells directly to the turbo then run a 5V regulator between the cells and the main pcb. :8ball:

hi man, welcome to the joint!

my guess is the lithium cells are the reason the v2 board gets hot, they have a lotta voltage and deliver a lotta current.

i’m not sure if the spider or bug would be suitable at that voltage and there are some issues at the moment with the ausmicro shop so i’d just forget the whole idea for now. :8ball:

well that was a blast, first time i’ve ever raced with more than 3 people let alone raced with a proper lap counting system!

they had cool little transponders and everything. as usual ph2t spent more time on the workbench than the track! 😆

i spent some time finalising my rubber preference, finished up using 10 degree atomic tyres all ’round and they worked out fine.
as everyone else was running atomic stock motors me an’ ph2t bought 1 each

i gotta say they’re a lot hotter than the name suggests!

here’s a pic of the chassis with transponder attached

and i shot some crappy cellphone vid too

they do look pretty cool, and (if cheaper) could make good donor bodies for z’s.

i wonder how many takes it took to get it to park in that little gap?! totally makes me think of that scene from the blues brothers!:smiley16: :8ball:
