frankie’s rebuilt 🙂 tho going quite a bit slower now, though that may be due to nearly flat batteries, I’ve realised I’ve replaced so much of frankie that I have enough bits to do a whole new Iwaver, minus pcb + controller,

once I charge up the batts it’ll be interesting to see how it performs. at the mo it has a 3×2 stack of 7317’s, before it was a pair of 7839’s stacked on top of the original Iwaver fets.

the 7317’s are cold to the touch at the mo, I’ll let you guys know how things stand once I use a fully charged batt.

Great … now I need to do even more work on frankie :smiley2: … 62 on 4 cells I wonder what I’ll get, Thanks for a great review, unfortunately it sounds like they won’t be suitable for F1’s 3×2 may be a bit big … I might need to look into some sort of heat sink arrangement.

I wish I knew, I’ll be using one with 1 side copper, the other unclad.
I got mine from Electus, Jaycar srock them if you can only get them retail, if you can get a trade account set up with electus you can get them wholesale.

    Jaycar
    http://www.jaycar.com.au
    HP9512
Single sided copper clad, for making PCB’s.
    – 150mmx150mm 1 side clad w copper
    1+ RRP: $6.20
    4+ RRP: $5.50
    10+ RRP: $4.90
    Electus Distribution
    http://www.electusdistribution.com.au
    HP9512
Single sided copper clad, for making PCB’s.
    – 150mmx150mm 1 side clad w copper
    1+ EX-TAX: $3.65
    10+ EX-TAX: $3.34
    25+ EX-TAX: $2.89
(So you have to add stuff like gst, shipping, insurance etc, but if you are they kind of person who visits Jaycar regularly well worth the effort of setting up an account, they seem to be Jaycar’s supplier/wholesale arm and so the pricings about %30 better than Jaycar – though milage does vary depending on the products.

    hope this helps

Thanks, both for the quick response and the offer, but I can afford to wait, I should be getting the 7317’s from you (they are just going to be even more useful than I had thought) with the te order + the tyres.

I dont see an identical pair of fets up that end of the pcb. I think i have heard that some Iwavers use 1 where as some kyosho use 2, unfortunately I cant post a pic at the mo, but I will when I get the chance …

Once I have all the goodies, I’ll sit down and revamp the whole thing, including the aluminium chassis, I’m thinking of trying a blank PCB wafer to bring down the weight, and instead of just casually hacking it out I might do a design on the ‘puter and try folloing that, that way if it works I can post it on the forums for others to use 🙂

Aaron, please don’t get me wrong, i’m not unhappy, I just won’t be here after the 22nd, no biggie, just dissapointed in TE given how prompt they’ve been in the past for me, but given the time of year it’s to be expected, I’m actually more dissapointed that they took your money for goods they had in stock, then effectively sold them to someone else …

Nahh, oh well I’ll have something to play with in the new year … If you could get whoever’s in charge of the vic distribution to hold on to my stuff until the 4th I’d appreciate it (Provided TE have actualy sent it by then) :smiley2:

They arn’t scratches, they are “authentic race detailing” 😀

Is the 2nd box packed and awaiting couriers or are they still packing it?

(I knock of work on abouts the 22nd, if I havn’t got my stuff by then then I’ll probably have to wait until the 4th …)

Hey you’re the one with a naked avatar … get him some clothes for pity’s sake, there are children and small rc cars watching :p

back on topic … ph2t have you considered doing nelly kits, all the parts inc pcb + instructions on how to assemble it, you could perhaps sell them fo a little less than the assembled ones, it would save you some labor and give people who are unable to wait for you to put them together a way of getting the nelly’s sooner (provided that you have all the parts in stock, the main downside I can see is if people don’t follow the instructions and then keep pestering you about it not working, but with enough of a disclaimer it might be feasible … also any chance of simplifying the soldering by using a “bake-on” approach for most of the surface mount stuff, and then doing the rest by hand (if you arn’t already)(I don’t know the exact details, but I have heard about it and I figure you’re more up to speed than I am in those areas …

    Edit: 150 – now I’m as regular as merc-blue’s badger :p

Actually I arrived closer to 5:30, but still deserted or what … I was worried that there would be a bunch of 1:10’s left at the track, on that note I too welcomed z-beam to melb (ran over his mini-z with my 1:10 (sorry))
His mini-z was invisible at about 8:30 onwards I don’t know how he managed to get it around the track.

For the 1st time my 1:10 survived unscathed 🙂

Frankinstein – my modded Iwaver did well, form about 17kph on the speed checker when I went to my first meet it’s gone up to 60kph 😀 and with a bumper bar which ph2t correctly identified as being a bit from a computer I wasn’t afraid to run it around the track, unfortunately I can’t get a shell to fit at the mo, and when the bumper slipped under a gap beneth one of the wood “walls” along the main straight (at near top speed) I broke my 3rd tie rod (no probs, I can replace it with the alloy ones I have) then I realised I managed to break my 1st servo gear, looks like I need some more parts …

Still until then frankie had been going well (if steering a little erraticly.

Oh and templestow is smooth if your car can only do 17 on a speed checker, when it can do 60 there are massive bumps in the surface, the small ridge along the main straight is almost a jump 🙂

moral: there is always more work to do on your car …

Great catching up with the guys, but it was a pity there wern’t more there to welcome z-beam.

Mini-Z, well modified iwaver 🙂 and if you have a choice definately go to templestowe instead of boronia, I think the only reason boronia was suggested was because templestowe was going to be busy on one of the days suggested.

betty.k I still havn’t broken a servo gear, I’ve had 2 tie rods break I’ll admit, but then after seeing what happened with you I havn’t used metal tie rods, and I can’t blame mine for breaking given that I still havn’t fitted my shell.

all metal set ups are evil money devouring beasties.

I’ll see what i can do,

the f1 has a batery compartment for 4xAAA side by side, do you think there is enought room for 2x Li-poly + a nelly with a pcb designed to be long and narrow rather than square?

Great news about the all N-chan h bridge, you have been busy.

I’m running a motor based on what I overheard ph2t say he was running, I’m very happy with it considering that it’s not custom made, tho I am thinking of modding it more, I so need to pull a finger out and either build a nelly like turbo, or buy one from ph2t just to save time.

    Anyways the motor –

Tamiya Plasma Dash – because it has a large heat tolerant com, this means that it will last longer (the standard ones can’t handle as much heat), and the brushes will be able to transfer the power more efficiently.
The down side with the Plasma Dash is that it uses bushings instead of bearings, most motors do to keep costs down, so take the armature and magnets from the plasma dash and put them into a ball bearing can to reduce the friction = even more efficiency,

So far a very easy mod add some 104 caps (to reduce rf noise and protect the pcb by absorbing/reducing/smoothing spikes) an we’re good to go,

If you want more torque and are willing to sacrifice some top speed you can replace the plasma dash magnets with neo magnets.

I’m currently trying to break in some custom made brushes made from 1:10 brushes operating on the theory more surface area will = less electrical resistance = faster, though more surface area may also mean more friction = slower, I’ll let you all know once I’ve run it in and been able to test it. (the brushes are about 3x larger 🙂
the larger brushes do seem to produce less arcing and hopefully will mean a longer brush life.

the other thing you can do is re-wind motors, (remove the wire and replace it with thicker/thiner wire, use multiple strands, pattern wind it, change the number of turns it has etc.

I don’t know how the bb-plasma compares to the pn s03, betty k any info on how they compare?

ashphelt I think, not the reallt smooth stuff either (I’m going of memory here, so I could be wrong, I never really bothered paying that much attention to the surface, I was more interested in my car, If I’ve got it wrong, and I may well have could someone please correct me) … I need foam tyres on the front to steer, otherwise the tires bounce alon to the point that when I try to break hard by hitting reverse the care doesn’t slow down it just swaps ends and keeps going, looks like a impressive manover that i’ve spent ages perfecting 🙂 unfortunately it’s just how the car reacts on that surface, I’ts the first place where i’ve neaded foam tyres on the front.

Might be an Idea to visit the web site and then post the link/stock codes of the Items you want, it’ll reduce the chances of confusion / incorrect orders (also might make Aaron’s life easier

(congrats on getting the top of the page 😉
