The JNH website pretty much points to the Tomy website which doesn’t have much about the Char-G’s. Do you think we’ll get any more of the line ?? having 2 frequencies isn’t too broad and it’s taking us ages to complete our ‘first to 5 goal’ Char-G games 😛

I hope they continue releasing them in order if they do expand the range, would that mean we’d be getting the FD RX-7’s and the new Celicas ??

If they do it’d be sweet because they could release them on 2 more frequencies.

I don’t actually own any of the Jap Spec Char-G’s, would they have any interfence with the 40mhz and the 45mhz cars ??

WA update : Rockingham K-mart had 12 (I think they come in boxes of 12) and have 1 left now, it’s a white GTR, we bought the rest for friends, and one of the carsdied so I swapped it over.

Armadale K-Mart also has a few in stock, they were unable to tell me which ones they were on the phone as they sounded quite busy.

I also enquired at Toyworld in rockingham, and they said they will not be stocking them, so I doubt any of the other Toyworlds will get them.

They ripped me AUD80ish on my Amex with my last order. They’re going to be very sore when AMEX finishes pasting them for that!

Someone correct me on this if I’m wrong, but I wouldn’t recommend getting OEM Bullets for that job. The axles are OK but the gearing on almost all of the OEMs I know of is more like the gearing on Bit racers. Instead of the little black pinion you get a big white one which gives you high speed with bugger-all torque. The way the cars are made, you’re stuck with that white gearing – it’s not compatible with real Charg Es.

Unless you plan to take the wheels and gearing and transfer them over. I guess that would work. But why bother?

My recommendation, why not get the proper Bit Charg E setting kit? It comes with 3 nice straight axels with 3 gear choices and 3 spare black pinions for the motor.

Only get OEMs to muck about with or race other OEMs (or maybe in the spirit of scientific discovery Derek :smiley1:). They just don’t come close to the real thing performance or finish-wise.

You’ve obviously tried straightening it yourself?

    My 2 cents.

    Nick.

    Hi Derek,

I’ll see what I can do. I thought of buying at least one of each at the time but then I thought someone may have already spotted them elsewhere and I’m on a limited budget. At the least I’ll try to sneak a picture.

Then again, maybe I should start a collection – there are so many different knockoffs here. And it’s quite amusing to see their half-arsed attempts at copying things. They have some classic stickers on the cars – one I bought recently had ‘TOP HOLE’ emblazened accross the bonnet and a set of ‘Modile’ stickers that looked suspiciously like those of that famous petrol retailer we all know and love :smiley2:

Seems to work better for me without the sway bar (stabius). I think it performs better, but you should really wait for feedback from other people who have done the mod simply because I run that site (http://www.questformadness.com) and my opinion wouldnt be appropriate.

Is it worth doing? I am a mod freak, so yes. But another person in another forum mentioned that it was a difficult mod because he had trouble reassembling the front end. Cutting the the tiny springs to size isnt that easy either. If you dont work well with tiny parts, this may not be the mod for you.

OK – I’ve been chasing around TV station to TV station. Started with WIN-TV Canberra . Bzzzzt – wrong station, but one of their account managers, Cecelia, got me on the right track. KUDOS to Cecelia for her help!

I ended up, some 20mins later, with afantastic person named Peta in theChannel 10 sales departmentin Sydney. I cannot thank Peta enough for her time and patience – she went well out of her way to assist me (I’m not arevenue-providing client of theirs after all).

Flicking through the JNH Australia traffic/booking sheets, she advised the following morning timeslots (approximate times only) have been booked by their client for the rest of the week in Sydney:

    • Tuesday 16Jul02 0715
    • Wednesday 17Jul02 0730
    • Thursday 18Jul02 0800
    • Friday 19Jul02 0730
    • Saturday 20Jul02 0800
    • [/list]

The challenge is on!Who can get a capture of the advert? :smiley2:

Thanks again to the friendly people at WIN and Ch10 for their assistance with our enquiries. Awaiting a response from JNH Australia with regards to offering the commercial (once captured) for download from our site.

      Regards

      Derek

I don’t generally get to watch too much TV, but I’ve made an effort to see at least 3-4hrs a week (at strategic times) of late in the hope I might get to see this ad!

Dammit! I’m emailing the distributor now and requesting a video tape copy of the advert. If they are happy to provide it, I will encode and upload with their consent.

    Cheers

    Hey Guys

So whats up with these Compact Char-G’s …

Are they an official TOMY release?

How are they so cheap (compared to the Japanese version)?

Anyone see any difference in quality and performance?

I live in Tassie and will call Kmart now and see if there down here yet (probably not lol)

Well if anyone has any information or has brought one, lets know about it 1

    Thanks

Only had one order fulfilled by them (http://www.hlj.com)so far. When it arrived, it was superbly packaged and documented, and the goods were exactly as ordered by myself. Delivery from Japan to Australia was an impressivefour business days.

The issue was actually getting answers to emailed enquiries. Very first order disappeared from the system. I read the FAQ and then sent an email. Automated responses do their best to help, but sometimes it just doesn’t cut it. It took around a week to get a response from a human. Follow-up emails took anywhere from 2-3 days.

    Cheers

Any chance of you sneaking a camera into the shop for a photo or two? I’m keen to take a look at the offering! A pic that shows the distributor or importer name would be very handy!

Do you think the retailer would do a one-off mail-order to Australia? Please feel free to pass on my email address derek@ausmicro.com to the manager if you reckon there’s a chance they would.

Like all of the copies/OEMs/ODMs etc, I like to get hold of at least one to test, disect and report on. It can be an expensive, and at times disappointive, job – but someone’s gotta do it :smiley2:

    Thanks and regards
