Basically, someone found this capacitor in the controller that looked like it was added as an afterthought. They removed it and the car’s range increased. However, it only seems to be in someremotesand it is non-existent in the 4-band controller. It’s a very simple mod and my range went from 6ft to 20+ft! I kinda question some of the results we have and whether some people even know what they are looking for (Hint: It’s NOT labeled cripple capacitor :smiley2:)
nevermind just stumbled across the range mod page.. hm, i’ll have to open my remote controller thing tommorow and see if I have one of these lil buggers in there that needs removing.

These are made by “Kid Galaxy Inc.” out of England I believe. Judging by the pic of the controller and the description, it doesn’t seem like a digital controler. Analog, same at the bits. These probably don’t have “hop up” parts either. More of a Kids toy IMHO.
Bearings would be nice only they add a lot of friction. I doupt they would be half as fast with bearings.
If I made it like the digi where there was no solid axle and put a motor on each wheel then it would have steering problems. The digi slows one motor down when you use the steering trim to take care of that problem. If one sides gear was a little dirty or if one motor was just a little faster (as we all know the consistency of motors sucks) then it would pull one way and there’s nothing I could do about it.
A motor facing the othe way on a ger on the other side would not pose a steering problem if there was a solid axle so the rear tires would have to spin the same speed but then one motor would be spinning backward and the other forward. Not a problem for Digi, again, but will be for bit. Here’s why. Take your digi and remove the rear axle and gear. Now listen carefully while giving forward throttle, then change to backward. Sounds like different tones hu? Probably because of the brush alignment. For whatever reason, they run differently forward then backward. That, to me means that one motor will be pulling the other along. That’s why I’m going to make the motors both turning the same way and turning the same gear.
Again, this is just my theory.

What is a cripple capacitor?
I have a Spec Ed Castrol Skyline ? 35 MHz and I have no idea what a cripple capacitor is or what it does?
Is it something bad that needs to be removed?

The wheels on the front don’t matter much for steering. Since the steering is my the rear wheel speed the front tires just get pushed around. So, my custome wheels didn’t help with steering at all.
I went to Toys-R-Us and found a matchbox car with wheels I liked and chopped them off. The front wheels were easy, just drill a hole slightly bigger then the spindle diameter, shave some plastic of the back side and drill a bigger hole in the outside of the wheel for the axle screw head (make sure it’s proper depth so the wheel isn’t tight when screwed in. The tires sere hard plastic so I left them alone on the front wheels.
The back wheels were a challange. The firs step was shaving the wheel a little thinner so it would fit inside the wheel well. Of course I took into account the distance the hex axle slides into the wheel. To make the hex shape in the wheel I took an allen wrench (I think it was metric size but I don’t remember) and heated it up over a flame for about a minute and then pushed it in the back of the wheel. I just guessed as best I could on center and depth. The firs time I did it the wheels didn’t run very ballanced. So I chucked the wheel up in my mini lathe, chucked the allen key in my tail stock, heated it up and plunged it in with the tail stock dial. This way I could dial in how far i wanted to go and it was held perfectly straight my the tail stock!
As for getting the rubber tires on the back wheels, I had to machine the plastic tires off leaving the raised portion in the middle to accept the rubber tires. Not too hard on a mini lathe but probably a challange to do by hand. I imagine you could put the wheel in a drill and spin it as you take a dremel and cut the plastic tire away?? havent tried that one yet.
Good luck, It’s not easy. It may take a couple tries before it runs perfect.

The other springs, which this thread is about, are used for the suspension to give more of a true action, instead of using the stock sway bar. Since you can cut them to different lenghts you could also make your own adjustable suspension.
Those are diorama chargers are pretty cool. I might have to make one for Bits.
I also want to get one of those Epoch Subaru Imprezas (I’m starting to collect them…my first was 1:1 scale :smiley2:)
You should have Gold status soon. I think the post number is 50 to get Gold, but I was in the 60s and still not showing Gold. I think it takes a while for the system to notice.
BTW – what happened to the 11-13 turns and 2 split offs? I only count 6 turns and one split off. It’s just not quite as nuts :smiley2:(I really really need a LOL emoticon)
Actually, it sounds perfectly normal. My car did the same thing. You just need to learn to drive :smiley2: Seriously though, you need to learn to anticipate your turns and drive accordingly. One technique is to tap or pulse the turn button to smooth out your turns.
As for tires…unless you buy the AE86 Trueno Tune-up set, you’re not going to find anything softer than the tires you have until August (that’s when the Bit Char-G tire set comes out). However, if you get the Bit Racer tire set, you can put harder tires on the front. That will decrease the initial grip when you turn and make the front tires slide a little through the turn. Then your car will not whip around as fast.

it could be the gear/motor combination that caused the speed difference. are the gears in both of your bits the same?

and the new propo special controller is basically like that program, it can boost your digi q to go faster, or some other programs with a LED back screen, all digi q remotes have the 4 channels on them.
The surface your using sounds a bit too slippery, might want to look into grabbing a set of “soft” tyres and givinbg them a whirl.Are the linoleum floor tiles polished? I’ve got the same sort of thing on my kitchen floor (unpolished) and the traction holds great with a castrol nismo gt-r 2.6 engine medium tyres setup.
I *wish* both my steering directions were equal though :), left is nice and tight and right is waaaay out. Have you had a look at the steering adjuster switch under the car? Only other things I can think of would be to check there isn’t any dust or stuff on the axle and tyres and to perhaps open the “bonnet” up and make sure the steering mechanism is alright and nothing has come out of place.

Well for me it’s the difference between $7 for a spring and almost $40 for a bullet…
Till bitchar-g’s are released here in OZ I don’t have much choice given my car is sitting here useless at the moment :(.

As in the other post, someone mentioned toyeast will be selling the spring for 2 bucks and 1.50 shipping. Look into that, sounds better than searching at a hobby store. Dave
