I didn’t end up buying from ebay as I wanted a few other things that weren’t included in the deal. So I just made out a list of parts, and my friend visited the rc shops and bought them over the counter. The prices are quite good at the moment with the strong dollar – things seem to be more affordable now.

    😀

    I’m 34 turning 35 in a months time.

Just got a friend to buy a whole bunch of rcrm stuff from Hong Kong. Got to wait a month before it gets here by ship though.
    🙁

Let me know when your next race meet venue will be. Although I’ll probably get thrashed by you all, because I’m getting on in the years and my cars aren’t modded.

I’m still trying to find a decent basketball court with smooth surface around my area… no luck yet though.

Anyone know if the rcrm mods are any good ? They look like value for money on ebay.

I’m at Dulwich Hill which is in the inner west. Is there a place with an indoor track where you can just stroll up pay your money and have a quick thrash for an hour.

Wouldn’t our TX frequencies conflict with each other ?

    I’m new to mini-z.

I’m not going to buy one unless they come out with a booster version. Might have to settle for the pullback shells.

Do you all have more fun with BCGs or Mini-z ?

Just don’t use the spray on tamiya paints because it bubbles and cracks on the surface of the shell – based on my experience. I’m thinking of hand painting mine now.

Do these clones go in a straight line or do they stray off centre after a metre ?

I’ve been put off clones now purely because they can’t go straight for more than 2 metres.

If anyone knows how to make them go straight, I’d be interested to know.

    Cheers,

You might want to look into the tyre set because with a 4.2 you’re going to need some grip. Also the gear set comes in handy if you accidentally bend the axles when pulling them out.

Also one of those 2 speed lxx boosters – they go hard with a decent motor or even the tomy g-24 fairlady booster if they haven’t sold out.

    😀

Hobbico in Sydney have clone Minis for $12.95. They came in silver, red and blue. Don’t know if the shell will fit a tomy chassis though.

Damn… I just placed an order to buy a vw and a nissan fairlady… If only I had known sooner.

I called kmart last thursday during the 15% sale and the the dude in the toy section told me that they only have one silver honda s2000 in stock.

    I want the porsche. 🙂

I bought an Lxx Booster as well – one of those special Lxx Type R packages they have that included 2 shells, a heat sink and an extra motor for around $12 US.

The shells are pretty good in my opinion and compare very well to the tomys. I’d definitely buy another Lxx Body.

The steering – not so good, strays left after going straight for a couple of metres – this is with the steering adjuster adjusted all the way.

The car was extremely noisy. The pinion gears didn’t fit too well.

The motor that came with it seemed to have a problem. In non boost mode, the car would barely move at a snails pace. Reverse seemed to have more power than going forward.

In the Tx controller, the recharge platform cover doesn’t open wide enough for you to put a finger between the cover and the car when charging. Also, the the plastic cap on top of the antenna doesn’t sit flush with the top of the controller when fully retracted.

I changed the axles, pinion gears, motor to a 3.8 last night, and it goes really well now. In non boost mode like a 2.2. In boost mode, it flipped over on cornering. Also, it’s a lot quiter now.

I think it also goes straight now for some reason, but will need to give it a good run tonight.

    Cheers.

I was a bit concerned when I entered my details on there web site where the postcode is in the zip code section, which doesn’t get displayed in the shipping details if you choose Australia as the country.

I called up the Australia post about this, and they said it will still be delivered, without the post code, as long as the suburb name and state are on it. (but it could be a few days late).

When I received my package, it did have the post code on it, so I guess it doesn’t matter.

    Go you AUD$…go..

    Ph2t,

I ordered from them 2 weeks ago, and got my package in 8 days even though they said that shipping usually takes 2 weeks. They post your parcel registered mail, so it requires a signature on delivery although my posty just dumped it on my front door.

All goods were packaged nicely in boxes and foam confetti stuff.

Just make sure, that when you fill out the shipping address on their site that you put your postcode in the address details and not in the zip code field.

    Cheers.

I’d like the idea of the blow off valve – it would go well on a booster.

What about a reverse parking sensor ?! Nah..

Thanks for sharing that information and putting up the photos.

No doubt, I will attempt that cripple cap mod soon. Just got my soldering iron back woo hoo…

Thanks for the info micro. I’ll give it another go sometime this weekend.

I couldn’t believe how fragile those clips are. I didn’t even apply too much force either. Oh well, I’ve got two oem ones coming…

    Thanks,

I too have also wondered about the heat sink and curious on whether it worked or not.

With a cpu, the heat sink covers the entire surface of the cpu with thermal paste in between.

When you look at the heat sink on a tomy bit, it only touches a portion of the motor, so I’m not sure how and if it really works in dissipating the heat from the motor.

Perhaps someone else know more on this…

    Cheers,

They’re pretty prompt with the delivery. I placed an order last friday, and they were at my front door on the Monday afternoon.

The batteries rock, changed a battery on my clone, and the car runs for around 15 minutes with two charges.:approve:

Tried prying the ic cover on my tomy bit to do the same thing, and a part of the clip cracked in the process. I didn’t want to force it off further, so left it.

Does anyone know if the ic cover on compact char-g is glued on ?

Ph2t, I fixed up the steering on the celica. Turns out the magnet was more closer to the left coil.
Thanks for your help on this.

I bought another cyclona bit (wrx) for my wife’s nephew who is 6 years old.:D

The wrx doesn’t have the problem with steering. It’s turning circles are good and it does 360 degree spins with no problems.

    Cheers,
    Kevin.

Can I ask where you bought your batteries from ?

I’d just went to jaycar, tandy, dick smiths and none of them had 1/3 AAAs.

The motor on this clone doesn’t have any bell ends just a yellow bottom which is flat.

Looks like it has a range of 5 metres and goes equal if not better than my standard tomy.

Thanks for the tips on how to correct the steering. I’ll look into applying the fixes later. But for now, I’m just going to enjoy it.:D

    This stuff is addictive.

    Cheers.
