    thanks z-beam.

when we initially dreamed up the idea it was supposed to be for use anywhere what had conditions to suit the little rover, however as you can see the end product is not nearly as robust and pretty as we had hoped. i guess there is only so much you can do in 12 weeks on a limited budget.

as for landing capability we did intend to drop it but after putting so much time and effort into the little bugger we weren’t really willing to drop it and face the possibility of having to start back at square one in week 10 of the semester. the tolerances are pretty tight on the container and all the features for dropping it are there, all it would need is some padded inner and outer walls and rounded corners. we all agreed that we wouldn’t drop it though

as for the reduced gravity on mars thing i never really thought of that. the unit is robust enough to drive on earth. only thing that really sucks on it is the speed. i guess ideally the wheels would have a sensor that feeds back to the micro to keep track of how fast its going. at the moment its just “tuned” to drive at the right speed.

    thanks for the feedback,
    Andrew.

    <a href="here is a link to a video

not the greatest display of our rovers “intelligence” but you get the idea.

programming covers all parameters that the rover uses. MADErover is entirely controlled by the on board microcontroller.
the code is written to make decisions based on all inputs available, ie: sonar, infrared, bump

edit: for some reason the link isn’t working.

unlikely you will notice a speed difference with fets. well i guess it depends on how you drive. the stock fets tend to heat up and get very inefficient after a while, so with your current mods the only difference you will probably see is no lag after a while of driving. it will go hard till the batteries dump.
as for LiPos you will definitely need and external turbo. if possible get one with mosfet drivers, but something like the current spider will be fine.

not bad at all. would be nice if you could get a cover over it though. have you thought of de-casing the electronics?

    ahhh i see. very clever.

looks like a great project. well done!

so given the state of the project, when do you expect to be ‘production’ ready?

not sure what surface yout running on, but when i ran with foams on the front i had the same spinning out problem. changed to softest rubber tyres and noticed a massive change. i guess it just doesn’t have as much traction on the front.

nice work! i’m amazed that it all fit under the cover! how does it drive?

how does the accelerate with the increase in weight? i get the feeling you might need to get a stronger motor…

you have to do it mate. after spending hundreds of dollars on mini-z and still not being able to take it for a spin on my street the mirco-t was exactly what i was looking for. i think others will agree.

    that looks HOT!!!

how do you plan to hold in the lipos? you tray doesn’t seem to have and “crash” protection. it would suck to see 40+bucks of lipo rocket out the front window if you hit something…

i would like to see some double sided spiders with mosfet drivers. thats the only thing i don’t like on the nelly’s. no offence ph2t, but they just seem to big.

damn i forgot about this thread. i found some bigger wheels since then. got the speed up 4 km/h on the speed checker. only problem with bigger wheels is the tendancy to bend the real axle when you flip/crash at high speed.

i do recommend getting the oil shocks if your dont mind paying the 25 bucks. i have the 3racing ones. they are awesome. my micro-t is hitting 33km/h on the tamiya speed checker so the damping was much needed.

    i’d say the same thing.

when it happened to me i found a tiny bit of glass that i had missed the first time i looked, so make sure you brush even if you don’t see anything

how much did the chassis, no electronics or motor, end up costing?
i’ve got a piece of shit xmods evo that i think might be better if fully hopped up.

dont bother with an ariplane esc mate. i tried and it was pathetic! they have horrible throttle response, and they WONT WORK ON 4 CELLS! no matter what the ebay description says, its wrong. i bought 2 from ebay that said 4 cells and neither work. just go for the mamba. its expensive but worth it.

of course. the esc has no idea what class the motor is, only what load is sees across it.

like i said, fets wont burn but the tracks will. a lot of people forget that in cases like these limits are set by track width in most cases.
