Quote:thanks man, but it looks like we wont need that much topspeed with the novice races if we live through the first 2 or 3 laps we can win lol.
def need newer ratios.
Yeah, funny how everyone in the novice race crashed out and retired leaving one person driving on the track and he didn’t need any help crashing into track barriers either.
I’m going to pick up my gear set and pinions tommorow…
🙂
Hey Talldude,
I’ve been looking into the gearing and it looks like you can gear the TB02 down to a 5.4:1 instead of the factory limit of 5.75:1.
All you need to do is to buy the following:
-Tamiya f201 high speed gear set which comes with a 52t spur gear.
-Tamiya 24t & 25t AV pinion gear set.28t pinions are available from third parties such as http://www.kawadamodel.co.jp/partslist/0.6module/window_0.6module.html
which can gear it down to 4.83:1 but I can’t find any online retailer that supplies these pinions outside of japan.
This should help in getting some top speed out of the stocker.
🙂

Thanks for that Panda.
I’ll give it a try. I was taking off the ball diff cover and pulling out the ball diff to adjust it.

Quote:true, true… but how do you make a point without the politically correct crowd getting rowdy? We just want them to know how alot of us Zers feel about that pvc everywhere. You mentioned one or two bits of hair? How about one or two thousand bits of fine pvc everywhere? This I think is Pete’s gripe… and well justifiedOh, my point about the hair was, yes I would prefer to remove hair rather than fine particles of pvc and yes it was also affecting my handling because it was reducing tyre grip, and yes I took extra long to maintain the car afterwards and who knows what it’s doing to our systems if we’re inadvertently inhaling it when a gust of wind decides to blow it in our direction.
I’m sure the drifters weren’t aware of all the pvc dust being left behind and the ill affects of it on other racers.
All we can do I think is to ask and to be nice about it.
🙂
Quote:Sorry; here we go where, lupi Fucken luThis is how flame threads start… just like the other ones…
Here we go again…:smiley2:
Quote:yeah kev if you want the best get the eagle racing CDC. shop around as it is pricey… but well worth it. you will need to run of a car battery or get a power supply.BIG DAVE
Been internet window shopping for this and you’re right about the price fluctuations from about $140 USD to $438 AUD…
I’m thinking on a Apex MU+ at $68 USD is whats in my budget, something middle of the range. Shipping should bring it up to around the $130 AUD dollar mark.
It’s getting expensive now…
Quote:yeah the thought of pvc everywhere is not cool.might have to use a “special drift court”
hate cleaning pvc off a hot mini z.
If it’s a choice of unwrapping girl pubic hair from the ball diff or brushing small flakes of pvc off – I’d know which one I’d choose.
Quote:its a shame kinda that there wont be the Z’s flying around there till next year blackeye:have to organise a big welcome back meet next year!!!
Yeah, I know what you mean, I’ve got an urge to take my z out for some good high speed racing around those netball courts again. It’s okay to run them indoors, but once in while you want to run continuous full throttle with no obstacles.
Quote:kevsta, at those speeds man, other shit becomes unreliable, like tyres, h-plates and wheel nuts ‘n crap….all of the above have vibrated loose whilst on the speed checker 🙂
nice speeds btw dude, is that with the (plasma)ferrite magnets or neo’s ?, :)…
ph2t.
Definitely with the plasma magnets, with the neo’s was getting around 53k-54Ks with a 12 tooth pinion but with whip lashing torque.
It’s definitely the motor combo to have, seeing that I can’t put bearings in the plasma dash can – yep, I bought those dinball “bearings for all motor cans” and learnt the hard way.
K.
Put simply the tamiya speed checker isn’t very accurate. Seems like some are more sensitive than others…
For example,
nelly 1.1, 14t pinion, 4 cells, I get 68k on Roe’s checker.
nelly 1.1, 14t pinion, 5 cells, I get 71K on Talldude’s checker.
I’m pretty sure if I tested 4 cells on Talldude’s checker I’d be getting something along the lines of 62K or thereabouts…
Btw. with 5 cells I was getting the same problem that betty.k was getting with the steering lag – very irritating and down right unusable.
My 2 cents.
🙂
Quote:sweeeeet looking car dude!i have to get myself another body i need more then one shell to make me happy 😀
when you get your car set up ill race ya :p
Yeah I want to get a few more shells as well, some of those protoform shells with the fancy paintwork look pretty good and will be next on my list of things to get.
My tamiya hop ups have come but will leave the chassis stock for now just to see how she handles. Good thing about the tb02 is the adjustability of all the suspension settings. Adjusting the ball diff is a hassle though, got to remove a few things to get to it.
Can anyone recommend a decent charger with peak detection and fast charging capability ?
Oh, about the racing that’ll be a definite.
:smiley16:
Here is the second chassis. Slowly getting there, should be all up and running by next year.
I take back what I said about 1:10 parts being the same price as mini-z parts. How wrong I was, The wheels and tyres cost me $80. Now I got to get myself a decent motor, some batteries and a charger.

Quote:another chassis?keeping a stock of spares are you kev?
if the next meet is at 19th (sunday) ill go to watch its just around the corner from where i live.
i usually ride my bike past that club so it should be a nice change not to travel far!
Impulse buy. I’m going to have to formulate an excuse now to justify this one.
It was dirt cheap about the price of an original tamiya shell so couldn’t help myself. Think I’ll regret it later though.
🙂
Excellent.
I can’t wait till my one comes.
How does it mesh up out of the box ? Nice and silent or rough and noisy ?
:smiley16:
Okay I just met up with someone that actively goes to these club meets, and he says that they are a friendly bunch and the racing is fun. Most of the people there are fairly new or novices, and if you want a real challenge with the pros then go to the clubs out at eastern creek. No thankyou.
Landed myself another tb02 chassis with a mazda6 shell. 🙂
Aaron,
My payment of $15 has been deposited into your account.
Cheers,
KevstaThat looks very nice.
Is that the 200sx pro-line shell ?
I’m going to have to tackle painting a shell soon, any tips man ?
I can’t wait to get them. Originally I wanted the blue shell, but being the last one in stock, I can’t complain as long as it works.
As for Tempe Racing, it should be on tonight, but check the thread in the other site. I can’t check it out tonight, because I don’t get home till 8pm and need to start work at 6:45am tommorow morning.
If you can make it out there, give us a short review of it.
🙂
Quote:OK guys I’ve queued two orders with TE (getting around the restriction on iWaver02, 04 availability) and there’s a couple of items that aren’t available at the moment, they’re basically the steering wheel sponge and the stainless antenna pack.I am waiting for a definite answer from TE about these so deposit the full amount. I will refund if I can’t get the bits.
Essentially we have a few days to get the cash landed before I have to do the transfer to TE. So please please please do it sooner rather than later.
A.
Aaron,
If the steering wheel sponge is out of stock, then don’t worry about it.
Money will be going in tommorow. Can I pay $20 to have the items sent direct to my address ?
Thanks.
It’s official now. My RC18T has been bought and is sitting new in box at one of my sister’s friends place over in Hong Kong ready to be brought over here once she’s finished her holiday. It’s a red one and I’ve been told it was the last one because they went to all the shops and asked for it.
My Impul-z TB02 has also been bought along with radio gear and esc.
Christmas gets better when you get older.
:):DQuote:Yeah me too im goin down for sure…Yeah from reading the thread, they race every 2nd and 4th Sunday/Tuesday of the month. They also have some decent track photos.
They just had a race day on yesterday and next race day looks like 19th December. I’ll be on annual leave then, but unfortunately no car so I’ll probably be checking it out sometime in the new year.
If you guys decide to go, give us a review.
🙂Quote:…mmm, not sure yet, it’d pretty hard to get a baby sitter that night so i’ll probably go and watch the fireworks with my wife & kid somewhere…I haven’t got anything planned. Might watch the fireworks at home coz don’t like being amongst crowds
Anyone going to make any new years resolutions ?
Mine is to shed a few kilos and to reduce spending on rc coz this year alone I have spent roughly $1500 on mini-z. 🙂
I won’t be coming for the rest of 2004. Got work and christmas stuff on.
Next year should be good though, at least I’ll have some new toys to play with. 🙂
Would the silver plated wire help if it’s between motor and nelly as well as soldered between the two battery holders of the chassis ?
