I trimmed about 5mm off one of the props today and had no loss in thrust, but with the prop spinning at slightly higher revs (and lower current) the run time was a little longer.
Might try trimming a little more off as well.

NSR34, I wasnt joking when I said they are $300 for one of these micro Rx pcbs.
    Still interested???

Merc Blue, most of the micro propo stuff nowadays is pic controlled (including the one above). Bloody amazing pieces of electronics.

I dont think there is any ‘extras’ in there that can be removed. Its all needed for the car to run properly.
Maybe (I havent tried this) removing the cells and replacing it with a LiPoly cell, which is half the weight and 50% higher voltage would see the thing screaming, but it is probably easier to just fet mod it and get the performance increase that way.

Try putting some stronger 3v motors into it.
    Ahhh the joys of R&D.

The motors do run on 8.4v, but the plasma D wont, thats too high.
Thats why Im going for a fan jet, they run on higher voltages.
No idea on the stock rpms LeonLi, but if you want more rpm, try trimming a little off each side of the prop, to speed it up, but if you trim too much you will lose thrust, so a little experimenting might help.

There are plenty of micro r/c Rx options out there, you can go fully propo without the need for a steering servo at all, but you need a 2 channel commercial Tx and the micro R/c rx pcb, each of which is going to set you back about $100 – 200. So it gets pricey.
I have the data sheets sitting next to me for a micro Rx that weighs just grams, but can control 3 channels (servo drivers or coil actuator drivers), includes an onboard ESC, and a BEC, runs on lithium poly cells, and also has a low voltage cutout to protect the cells. This would be perfect to put into a BIT, but its going to set you back $300 just for the Rx, then I still need a 4 channel Tx to control it.
The technology exists, its just a matter of how much do you want to pay. Good stuff though.
Here’s a pic of the kit showing the flying actuators (if you used it in a plane) but this Rx pcb would go straight into a BCG and run the steering coils as totally proportional as it sends a constantly variable stream of pulses to the coils holding them in any position. The ESC is integral so you still have 2 extra propo channels to play with. This kit requires a 4 chanel FM (neg shift) Tx, eg Futaba, to control it.

Hmmm, not sure. I know those enertec cars, and you are right the range of those (the one I measured) is 17m.
Was the car originally running on 6v?, I notice you have 4 AA cells there. Increased voltage can saturate the Rx rf circuits.
It might be worth a try using the original motors out of the car to see if that makes a difference.

The ‘dude’ in the pic is one of the proffessors who originally developed the Mars rover program for NASA, now works for WowWee toys in development.
    His speciality is robotics.

It runs a 130 size motor, so the likes of a Tamiya plasma dash motor should see this little thing speeding up a bit, (or a fan jet)

I think it will run out of range before it runs out of climb. With elevons you lose altitude when you turn, so its easy enough to climb in straight lines and turn to come down a bit, thats how you control these things.

Thats why I think they are copying the SBCG pcb, because they have the 3 cars on each of 2 frequencies….or do they?
Let us know what the story is when you get one.

Try moving the motors and the motor wiring as far away from the Rx pcb as possible. Do you have capacitors on the motor terminals? these reduce the rf interference that the motors generate which will cause stuttering and range reduction if they are not there.
Did the toy car have a decent range to begin with?

Interesting, LXX (Perfection) are making superBCG copies now.
They seem to have tweaked the design a little to give the improvements that people want,(longer run time, 2 speeds) but I wonder if they still ‘run on’ when they go out of range.

Yes, for under $100 they are a good entry level rc plane, and lots of fun too.

The ZZ SEs have the two in a line, in roughly the same position as a BCG battery.
Imprez a dual cell has the extra cell put in series with the original cell to double the voltage to the motor.

I cant vote on this one as I dont have a lot of experience in this scale, but I would be interested to see peoples’ opinions of the different models for when I do eventually get one of these.

BCGs use 1/3 AAA cells that are about 13mm x 10mm
Some of the two cell cars use 2 x 1/4AAA cells that are 10mm x 10mm.
These include, the enertec cars, the Digis, micro machines and others.
Most have them sitting side by side. The NiMh 1/4AAA cells are 70mAh (GP7AAAH) and run well if they are peak charged. Maximum output current is less than the 1/3AAA cells but still more than enough to run a micro motor.

LeonLi17, you have the most fun with these when it is dead calm, you can fly in a breeze but you tend to spend your time ‘fighting’ against the weather. There is also more chance of a bad landing in the wind.
I dont bother taking them out now unless its daed calm or close to it.
It has a large wing area so I think ot will do fine with the increased thrust of a fan jet, we’ll see.

LeonLi17, I was in Jaycar the other day and the 2 speed mini micro rc cars are back in stock. I didnt ask anything else, I just got them to confirm that they have them in again.

Thats the aerial wire, in the pic they have it coiled up, it usually just hangs there.
It is controlled by two ‘elevons’ not a rudder.
Elevons (combination elevator/ailerons) go both up for “up”, one up one down to turn either way, and both down for down. Ant they work quite well.
They are the black theings at the back of the plane, it does not have a ‘rudder’ at all.

Yeah its kind of a cross between a sparrow and a fighter jet. Its made of foam, so it wont take many nose first landings (:smiley2: if you know what I mean) to do it damage, but as the batteries run down, it flies a little ‘nose up’ so its easy to land it safely.
Control range on these is easy 100m. I was flying today from one end of a football field to the other with no sign of signal loss.
They are a ‘dead calm’ flier, so most nights at dusk is the time to go for a fly.

The power air surfers are excellent, I have both the biplane and the Sky Wolf.
That is a reasonable price with the batteries included. Last week T.R.U was selling those for $130 without the batteries, but Big W started selling them (on sale) for $97, so I bought mine there.
I use a peak charger to charge mine up but the charger supplied does a good job too. Dont worry too much about taking off from the ground, you use a lot of power taking off, better to ‘power on’ then throw it.
They have good controls, with 2 elevons controlling turning, up and down, and you have 2 motor speeds, and ‘glide’ as well.
I will be putting an electric fan jet on my Sky Wolf as soon as the jet motor arrives from the U.S. (I just gotta mod it, thats just me.)
    Should be fun.
