    ahhh yeah – gotta agree, the chassis doesn’t give much cooling to the motor so they run very very hot.

    There are aftermarket heatsinks to attmpt to reduce it, but in reality you just can’t reliably run lower turn motors…

    Nice 20 turn or so though could be pretty sweet 😉

    *laugsh* Jamie, you can always get Shells around the places, Tamiya I’m sure will sell the Enzo shell individually as well….

    Prolly about $80 *ouch*

    Is that Kit with radio gear?

    Places like HobbyCo in Sydney (http://www.hobbyco.com.au) and radio Models in Perth (http://www.radiomodels.com.au) do excellent pricing and mail order. I’ve found radio Models to be brilliant despite being located in Perth compared to my Canberra locale. I saved stacks by havign the Baja Champ ordered from Perth, and it came next day via air courier for a mere $12ish

    I think you can’t go wrong with a TT01 OR TL01 and few hop-ups (order bearings witht eh car, gett eh required types and amounts from teh Tamiya parts lists online) …

    Ok they’re not killer racing chassis but you’ll be able to compete in Stock and low end Mod classes and probably do quite well.

    The biggest difference in R/C is not the cars it’s the drivers and their ability to set up the car.

    And just as a thought – one of the guys I work with *waves down the corridor towards RingoDingo HQ* has had great success running a low buck TL-01 in the local clubs here.

    He’s got the stock TL01 kit (Nissan 350Z) runs the speed tuned gear set and big pinion. Oh and a GM V4R ESC. Ball bearings ofcourse.

    And that’s it – he’s beating much ‘better’ chassis and having a ball on a limited budget.

    The point being that for his AU$200 plus radio gear investment he’s getting on very well. Yes he did buy the car kit for like AU$135

    I don’t race any of my chassis preferred to hack around at lunchtimes with the guys or on the beach etc.

    Panda will ofcourse corect me but my understanding is that the TT01 is a basic tub style chassis that moves on similar grounds to the TB01 chassis. It may end up selling alongside or taking over fromt eh TL01 as an entry level chassis.

    As long as you’re not 110% planning on going crazy with racing I’m sure a TT01 or TL01 with bearings and few cleaver hopups from tamiya would float your boat. I seem to recal people sayignt eh TT01 did drive quite nicely.

    Oh well I just ordered all the parts to fix the Baja up… Ordered a standard set of dogbones becuase they were seriously cheap….

    I’m running a stock Tamiya Mabunchi in it… I have a 16turn Kyosho in my TA03 which is pretty sexy when not sripping pinion gears 😉

    Jamie you won’t regret a TL01B… sure they’re not a full on offroader but they’re very very driveable and a lot of fun.

    The TL01 chassis runs nice with bearings and with some decent shocks it will handle much better. Friction shocks just aren’t good enough once you get into driving it.

    I still haven’t cleaned mine out… but will have to soon!

    Yeah there’s an Arlec one here that sells for about AU65 that pretty good… Mains and 12v input…. we use it in the office, charges batteries all day long without a worry…

    At least it did until the weather cooled off here in Canberra….

    I’m amazed at how many people are running Chrysler shells (Stratus and 300M) these days. OK they are pretty slippy but they’re not even sold here…

    Transponders are non-powered.

    The system we’re looking at will be significantly cheaper than existing transponder systems. We have a target price that while not ‘cheap’ is definately affordable.

    At the moment the DingoTimer for Slotcars developed by RingoDingo is a good example of just how much the pricing barrier can be shattered by.

    We’re still waiting on our buy pricing on some of the hardware modules we need though before we can start workign on the development system.

    We are working on developing the solution at the moment. We’ve been working on the DingoTimers for quite some time but their setup doesn’t translate to the R/C application.

    Essentially we know what technology we need, and how we’re going to do the data gathering and what we’re going to do with the data when it hits the PC.

    The issue really comes down to the cost of the hardware. We expect the transponders to be very cheap, and the PC side of things to be picey but not outside the realms of affordability (it will time anything) We anticipate that the timing system will require a sensor mounted either the track or above it.

    They’re US based…

    ausmicro.com makes a teensy percentage of each sale made by clicking through the links. It’s probably not via for AU based people to buy from but if you’re in the US they’re quite OK on pricing compared to some rip-off-merchants around the place!

    Well here’s a better shot of the paints ability to shift colour… This is the rear end after a single coat…
