What i meant was if you had steering that was non propo (full lock or nothing) and non propo throttle (full noise or nothing) spinning a boat would probably happen alot more.

First off, a 2000+ mAh NiMH battery will have triple the ‘runtime’ of an alkaline.
They can supply 20-25A for short periods, so 1100 mAh is no problems for them.
The other thing to consider is: An alkaline’s voltage steadily decreses in a linear fashion.
A NiMH’s voltage stays very steady, then the last 10-15% of battery power will have a quick drop of voltage.
It’s not recommended to overcharge ANY type of rechargeable battery, though a low current trickle charge doesn’t hurt NiMHs.800-1100mAh isn’t much current, an AAA NiMH can do that very easily. An AA would just have more capacity.
Personally for high dischage applications, I use Japanese made cells, which are usually the dearer brand, but for your application they are pointless…
Go down to jaycar Electronics and grab some 2300’s, they should last 2 to 2-1/2 hours per charge.
Same problem! one can fit 2 cars and a few bits and pieces, the other one fits 8!! plus it has a 2nd storey for all the hobby stuff.

$50 is fairly low budget for a boat, my boat is using recycled gear, with about $75 extra stuff, so the final price for the complete thing would be around $220.
an icecream bucket probably wouldnt steer very well at all, and would have too much drag….i hope you were joking when you said that anyway….
Proportional ain’t that important, many boats have a one speed only throttle…..its not like you can break traction and spin a boat out!!
Propo steering obviously has its benefits…..you could roll a boat at full throttle if you only have non propo steering.
One rule of thumb i go by is….don’t use your r/c when you are drunk…..usually your out somewhere when getting hammered and the R/Cs stay home.
With your budget in mind…..go for a mini or micro boat.

There ain’t nothing special about the x speed, its overpriced for what it is.

Whoa nelly 1.1 turboShould be a potent machine, it *should* drift on tarmac with this sort of grunt….but man the drivetrain will suffer, I’m gonna put heatshrink on the outdrive cups, stops them flexing and breaking, but it probably wont quite cut it. Alloy ones are quite pricey……:sad:

Wills, i’ve been down this same road, and sorry, but the internals just aren’t up to it. Nylon instead of ceramics etc. No good for running big power. I don’t like wasting money on shit….unless there is a specific motor you are talking about.
Those watercooled ESC’s look quite cool….

My 130 is close to the power of a basic 540, though it needs a much smaller prop or a gear drive to work as its all revs.
In a boat that weighs around 300G (1/5 the weight of a 1/10 car) It might be ok.
A 540 WILL NOT FIT IN THIS BOAT, NEITHER WILL A 6 CELL PACK!!
I might get away with a speed 400, and I may go to one of them soon as they have similar power to my 130 motor, but would be less strained and more reliable.
The ESC should be capable of passing many amps, as there is a copper waterpipe soldered to the FET stack, so the FETs should run 15 degrees or so.
The cells I am using are 2 Li-Ion 3.4v 1800mah Hewlett Packard’s which cost 3.90 US each.
Dont get the DSE motors, they are 12v motors and are gutless on 4.8v or whatever

True….once they get hot, the R(ds) increases…..Which makes the tempareture go up in a logarithymic curve……bang…fizzle…pop!!! Then that awful “electronic” smell.

I guess it’s nice to have things to do, I enjoy the building/repairing part, but not nearly as much as tasting the fruits of my labour….
So far with my boat, ive got the thing built/driveshaft epoxied in place, rudder, canopy chopped/ Watercooling system installed.
Now it needs to have some gap filler applied all over, sanded, sealed, painted, get everything installed, buy 2-3 sets of Li-Ion batteries….oh and I need to make a cradle!!
The firebird was crashed, and the motor/battery pack is shagged. Though i have 18 cells that are the same size as the Firebird ones, 900 Mah Nimhs.
Im thinking of a gearbox and a higher pitch prop….oh and a new speed 400 is going in it when I find the time….
Built a 5 cell Nimh Rx pack for the 1/10 nitro buggy. As I am financially Fucked atm, silicone retreads are my only option!!!
The 1/10 boat…..well I just never got time to finish it, i got 90% of it done.
Its running a fan cooled multiplex speed 600, but I don’t know if it has the grunt I need.What is it with parents these days??? If i did that when i was little I would have copped a beating!!

Dude i’m running 7.4v/22×1 motor with neodymium magnets/ 9×1 ESC watercooled, it aint a stock Z setup.
You might be right though….I am sticking with this motor as I need to test its durability.

3). Fix and upgrade my Firebird XL (in slow progress.
4). Fix the engine mounts on my 1/10 Ultima and seal all elecs for winter driving (in progress)
5). make 1/6-1/8 scale speedboat powered by a 22.5cc zenoah petrol engine (got the engine!! gotta find the boat) But may make a 1/4 scale buggy instead.
6). Get the damn XMODS going hard (in progress/waiting on parts)
7). Get 3 channel R/C hangar rat going (sourcing parts etc.)
These are just a few things that i am doing at the mo.

I have a 50 A ESC in my GH2, and it with a 14×2 motor the MOSFETS get only Lukewarm.
The 50A is RMS, the max rating is 200A
Well, I used to use Silver 5 split spoke, 0 offset on my Porsche GT3, which originally had 8mm wheels.
It worked fine but I had to dremel out the inside of the front and rear wheel arches.
