Wow, I didn’t realise the pro was such a low wind motor – no wonder I’m afraid to run it on my stock boards 🙂

If you’re still after CF, I ran into someone on another forum that might be able to help you out.

    http://www.sydneycruising.com/1/forum/index.php?showtopic=4361&st=10&#entry101249

“Custom Carbon Pty Ltd -Specialists in Carbon Fibre Motor Sport Components, 81 Basalt st Geebung 07 38652014”

He made his own CF bonnet for a Nissan Skyline. Very nice.

    HTH, Graham.

I can’t help directly, but I did see a rally driver making his own side mirrors from CF sheets and adding the resin.

I don’t know if they’d help you find a source, but contact MRT Rally, I think at, http://www.mrtrally.com.au and see if Brett Middleton or someone can help you.
Alternatively look for someone in motorsport closer to you.

    Good luck!

    Looks great and surprisingly stable.

Yeah, running a $300 tx on something that tiny seems like overkill, but that’s about the only TX with a flat enough area to drive the car on top of! 🙂

    Hey talldude,

that iWaver on Tower Hobbies is the new iWaver 02M – there’s a bit of info around on the net about it, but it’s not yet released. As per Tower Hobbies, it’s currently due in November. When I first saw it early this year, it was due in May – it keeps getting pushed back.

I have heard that there’s a couple of testers/samples in specific hands at the moment, but no official release date – they easiest way to spot the differerence between this new future beast and any current or past models is the FM radio.

    Cheers, Graham.

Welcome! Good to see you coming over from the other forum 🙂

I’m just a newbie with these things too, but bettyk seems to have don a lot with various types of micros, so listen to him. 🙂
And by the sounds of it, you need to turn that delorean shell into a shelf queen 🙂 You can pickup 2nd hand bodys & cars sometimes, I’ve gotten a few from various forums, so keep your eyes open.

    Cheers,
    Graham

I’m not sure what these look like (I’ll read the links at the top of this thread soon) but one of my colleagues just installed a springy antenna on his iWaver and it eliminated his tyre shake! We were both surprised by this.

my stock iWaver with no antenna attached has operated in an underground car park at approx a 100m range. It might have been a little bit glitchy at that distance, but I did drive it back. The standard short antenna wire was just pointing upwards and I didn’t have a body on it. It was so far away it was very hard to see which way it was pointing.

I guess I’m a bit puzzled – maybe some boards & transmitters are more accurately in tune with each other?

The stock iwaver 01 does have spacer plates and the Firelap 2.0 or Iwaver 02 has different brackets to space the motor further away for bigger pinions.

Don’t you have any of those that you can use to get the gear mesh right??

    Cheers! Oggy.

If you’re engine mounts aren’t letting the gears mesh neatly then this will really kill speed.
It’s like driving with the hand brake on.

Yep I heard about QC issues before, didn’t think it could be that bad until I got a Firelap 2.0 🙂

Yep, you don’t have to use the discharge, it’s just an option.

I picked one of these up for $40 from Electus Distributions – Jaycar’s wholesale arm. If you’ve got an ABN you can buy through them at better than retail prices, but if you can’t get to silverwater, then you’d have to pay for shipping. 🙂 You could always get some batteries and other stuff while you were at it. hehe

It seems to work well enough. It charges each battery individually which is a plus over my other charger. It is slow though. I have it on while I’m at work and it can take over 2 days (about 10 hours per day) to charge 900mAh AAAs! And the cells weren’t even fully discharged!

It does get very warm though – almost as hot as charging them at 1Amp on my other charger, but then it would take just over 1 hour.

    Cheers, Graham.

Radio Shack? Our Tandy used to sell Radio Shack gear, and if anyone is older than me, maybe than can confirm if there was a more solid relationship? 🙂

Having had an MR01 for a few months and now an MR02, my electronics skills have been improving. I almost understand how the FETs work and maybe have a 33% understanding of some external turbos. hehe. I wanna build my own from canabalised parts! 😀

I’ve gone through so much on this car that it’s just frustrating. I’m sure there’s something that I’ve missed though.

H-Plate, one was tweaked but I’ve tried (and broken) 3 of them now, not all of them can be wonky. 🙂

Yep, the office has gone crazy on 1/28s.
My boss wants one, his boss has one and his boss is on the list for one in the group by. All we have to do is go up 2 more bosses & we hit the CEO 🙂

I’ve had an iWaver 01 for a couple of months now, along with a dozen other people at work.

They are great fun, but mine handles like dogs balls – it spins on it’s own when it picks up a little speed, so I race in reverse 🙂 Unfortunately running into things backwards does more damage than forwards.

The other people with 01s have pretty good handling.
I’ve picked up a second hand 01 cheaply and it has the good handling that I’ve been envious of, so I’m using my original one as spares now.

With the stock motor and gearing and a set of 900mAh AAAs, I’m sure I got 1 hour run time (4×15 minute session) but much of that was chasing the cat in our small loungeroom. 🙂 ie: mostly low speed.
Now with a iWaver x-speed +Plus motor, it’s about 15 to 20 minutes before steering stops working due to low batteries, but the motor is drawing more amps and still goes fast, straight into the first wall!

One guy has an iWaver 02 and it seems to be quick, handle well and is a lighter car. We’ve got 20 iWavers coming in as a group buy in a week or 2 as most of us are upgrading. 🙂 They are good fun, especially in the office.

I got 900mAh “Powercell” or something AAAs from Jaycar along time ago.
They work fine and seem to give longer run times & are cooler than a set of “m-Energy” 1000mAh AAAs that I picked up 2nd hand recently.

I read the ebay links and couldn’t see if the batteries were “NiMh” anywhere.
But as long as they aren’t like the Grandcell batteries and that they are genuine Energizers then I think that they will perform well.

That is interesting, any chance for more comparisons? 🙂

I compared some 1 2 and 3 degree toe-in steering arms for an MR01 and measured 0.05mm difference between the 2 & 3 degree arms. I couldn’t tell them apart by eye checked their length with a micrometer.

Once installed, the difference in toe-in was visible.

So even if there’s “just 1 gram” difference, it might just be having a big impact somewhere 🙂

Weight wise, I imagine they were very much the same as the original part since they are all plastic.

    Cheers, Graham.

An interesting thing happened yesterday. I was describing this problem with the car to a guy at work, and I showed him that the car didn’t work with it’s own crystals (Channel 9). I then put other crystals in (Ch 2) and the car worked just fine. I put channel 9 back in and absolutely no reaction from the car, I pulled Ch 9 out and put them straight back in and the bloody thing worked!

I can only think that the connectors on the crystals was a little oxidised and the act of swapping them a few times has allowed a better connection.

So now I’ve got a spare car that’s up for sale or as a backup for parts if I need it (which I may just do considering the speed & damage I’m causing with my car).

Cheers + thanks for all the help so far! G.

I found an expired ebay auction for it but couldn’t post last night, my browser or the site was playing up. Bugger, I can’t find it now.

But it is on UK ebay: check out item # 290003869826 .

And the Dogs balls description of the iWaver 01 pretty much matches my first experience with a Kyosho MR-01.

They do get better with Bearings and a Diff. 🙂

I think I’m doing something wrong – I’ve got the diff & bearings, but its still not great.

I’m thinking of getting a Firelap 2.0 (aka MR02) – seen one going and it’s much better straight out of the box, IMO somewhat because of the lower battery positions. Plus the digital TX is a big step up.

I should go take some pics of my iWaver and introduce myself properly 🙂

    ciao, Graham.

hehe, typical – straight away I think I’ve found one answer.

    http://shop.ausmicro.net/product_info.php?cPath=21_54&products_id=286

The Gandini foams available on the AusMicro shop say they are for MR01 & MR02 – so I guess any alloy wheels for MR02 will fit an MR01 (or the iWaver equivalents). Can anyone confirm this?

Also, for anyone that’s tried the Gandini foams, once the foams have worn out, can they be replaced with the standard rubber tyres (are they similar diameter to the other wheels)? Do the Gandini wheels look OK?

    Cheers again! Graham.

That pic didn’t cover all of the iWaver boards I’ve seen – with the same orientation of the PCB as that diagram, the servo motor connects exactly the same, but the servo’s pot connects on the bottom edge, with the blue wire at the corner and the yellow wire just inside from it, but on the bottom edge.
The blue wire is connected to 2 pins on the pot, yellow to the other one.

Its weird. I did a bit more testing today, with someone else with the same frequencies. It turns out these crystals are OK, the same controller and crystals works on another car.
So now I guess I’ve got to go hunting through the components on the PCB to find out why it’s not working or only working sometimes. It actually worked for 1 second before stopping today, then again for 5 whole seconds a minute later. 🙁

Thanks for the tips on crystals! Graham.

Well, I’ve only got an iWaver 01 so I can’t vote, but this thing handles like dogs balls – which is not very good – I certainly don’t handle dogs balls.

I’m still learning, but if I get another 1:28 micro it might be based on the results of this poll! Everyone vote please! 🙂
Actually, can there be a vote for best handling on-road chassis:
    iWaver 01, 02, 02m, Firelap 2.0, Mini-z MR01, MR02 etc etc.

    Mx5 with a V8 – a place make them in Qld – it’s called a Bullet 🙂
They also did one with a 13B rotary engine but decided to stick with a 4.0 V8 and a 4.0 v8 supercharged option!

Any updates on this brushless wonder? 🙂
