Forget it, takes only 1 grain of sand to jam your gears!! 👿
Quote:i saw a real z in town on the weekend. There’s quite a few in Melbourne already.
I think we’ve seen:-
silver – ok, but bit common, seen several already
black – nah, looks off somehow
blue (dark) – ok, not bad
white – ugh!Haven’t seen the famous ‘orange/bronze’ yet though!!!
Strangely it looks a tad bulbous in real life… looks better in pix.
Still prefer the 1990 300ZX and the original 240Z! 🙂
The guilty speedster was a Schumacher (no relation) “Fusion”, which is designed for idiotic top speeds. Its basically a standard-sized 1/10 touring car with a whopping big 0.21 cu-i engine in it…
1/10s use 0.12 engines in racing which do 1hp+, and the 0.21 are usually found in 1/8 cars.
Schumacher sez their Fusion car is good for 80mph (thats ~130km/h!) but RCCA magazine tested it themselves and only did ~75mph though… so perhaps that’s a bit of sales puffery.
The Fusion is totally built for speed only though. It does not take corners too well due to that great big heavy donk. Its also got a three-speed auto gearbox so you’ll need a very long straight to make good use of that.
The stock 21 engine in the Fusion is nothing flash though… and it was disappointing no one brought along a 1/8 car that night, with a ‘real’ good 21 engine. They can easily hit 140+ within about 3 secs, not sure about sustained speeds though.
Nitro engines really shouldn’t be revved at max for more than a few seconds at a time, otherwise they blow up. blackeye:
Quote:how in gods name did u break a crystal. my crystal is indistructable….Haha, that’s what you think… but no, those things are simple little slivers of quartz crystal (aha!) in that little can. They can break; my dad used to wrap his spares in cotton wool (might be because they were also very expensive in the 1970s!).
I think it had something to do with running full tilt (nitro car, remember?) into a blue stone curb. Had a loose RX battery, so the car just took off with WOT… I think it does about 60km/h (only single speed) heading towards a busy city street. 😯
Luckily (?!) it veered off slightly and hit a road divider kerby thing instead… crunch, the wreck flew back about 10 feet, ripped whole RHS front suspension off, broke a shockshaft, smacked a few teeth off the servo gears, ripped the ears off the servo. Ooh, and it creased the body.
Some of you guys would know its not easy to pull the xtal out from the RX… well the impact was hard enough to throw the xtal out; it was found about 20 feet further on from the scene.:shock::shock:
Silly me actually bothered testing the xtal, found that it worked and so kept it… but didn’t know it only worked intermittantly.
How about this one…
This guy buys a brand new pickup (no guesses which war-mongering country he’s from…!)
Wants to run it in, so invites his mate along for a fishing trip. They load up their food, beer, supplies and guns (heck, its US ok??!) and their pigdog comes along for the ride too.
It is winter, so they drive onto this big frozen lake. Ice is thick enough to bear their weight, no worries.
They need to make a hole in ice though, to fish.
No problems – the guy brings out a stick of dynamite.Lights it. Chucks it 40′ away, to a suitable clearing on the ice.
Suddenly, flash of brown fur brushes past him… its the DOG! And it thinks its master has just chucked a stick for it!!
Sure enough, dog picks up the stick and starts running back to the 2 guys.
The guys panic; the friend brings out his shotgun and fires 1 shot at the air to try scare the dog.
No good, dog still has fizzing stick in mouth.
He fires second shot direct at dog. Ok, this does the trick, dog is petrified and bolts for cover.
Towards under the truck… 😯
Claim form to insurance begins “there’s an interesting story as to why my new truck is at the bottom of a frozen lake”…
Quote:Yeah panda I knew you played with r/c’s for while from your banter with everyones favourite twit lancer_evo. BTW Mr toys toyworld near me has a great RC section and I checked before I bought and they have one or two of every spare so I am safe 4 NOW:smiley2:Haha, that’s what YOU THINK… but noooo, Mr Murphy will still get ya!!!
There was this one time I went racing.
Brand new, perfectly good HPI car. Just in case I needed spares I carted along another whole identical chassis, plus another electric HPI which used the same parts etc etc. That’ll last me a while, right??But in 1st heat I broke something…
… the ONE thing I didn’t bring spare for …
…. can you GUESS which one???! 🙁
The @@*#$$&@# RX Xtal!!!
Ya, I got lots of xtals, but very seldom multiples of the same freq. Unfortunately all of the other channels were already taken, so couldn’t change freq.
Let that be a lesson…! 😀
1st March got rained out, so it was moved to 15th March… which was Last Weekend!!
Fastest car around that track on Saturday was clocked at 104km/h by radar…
Hey, you didn’t say you were gonna be in Melbourne…!! blackeye:
haha… how much WEIGHT have you added to the thing??!
Alloy parts aren’t light, matey… far heavier than the plastic bits they replace, usually.
Extra weight will raise your roll centres, and traction-rolling becomes easier.
For something cheap you could try using your I-plate as a template and cutting a new one out of an old creditcard or similar. Then install *both* on the car.
The stock part is a bit soft and floppy by itself.
Worth a try for 5 mins work and 1 old plastic card.
Quote:…A pub is okay for me. (Heh, trust an engineering graduate to pick a place where he could drink BEER!):clown:Figures…!
(but I was more into the choccie appreciation society…:D)Only problem is a pub/bar is that… do you really wanna be
playing little geeky cars in Melbourne public like that???!
1) you’ll have no peace to even think of racing
2) there’s chance that you might not be leaving with your car.
3) ditto surviving with full set of teeth/bones/skull
Hmm.. or should I be looking for different pubs to patronise..?!Anyone got access to a tute room, boardroom or something?
Its in the “Darwin Awards” book, dgs.
Running in motor is a good idea, but using a Dremel is probably overkill. Just as easy to just power the motor with a larger nicad and just let it run overnight or more. Would probably run all night on a single charge!!
And if you discover the useful ‘life’ of a microB motor, tell us PLEASE!!! 😀
Quote:….3 years of electronics at tertiary institutes has to count for something…:D:D:D:D:DNot down here it don’t!!
But I sure can solder neatly!! :smiley2:I think its the YELLOW Honda and the Blue GTR. 🙂
I think its the YELLOW Honda and the Blue GTR. 🙂
Quote:what other tech does Keyence make?:question:Keyence is also known for some pretty high-end ESCs in big RC land. Pretty fanciful stuff, computerised with LED displays etc.
Their all-singing all-dancing micro semi-trailer sells for about $1200 down here. They also have a palmsized scale helicopter.
MiniZ are “1/28” scale, so sometimes 1/24s might be a bit big so check width first.
Have also been told that some slotcar bodies might fit eg Fly, Scalextrix.
In all cases, you’ll have to engineer your own body mounting tabs etc of course.
There are quite a few “private” ones around, eg in ppl’s garages etc.
I hear there’s guys playing mZ at Hoppers (on old slotcar track) and another new mob in Clayton thereabouts.
Search our previous threads…
Ask your mums what a “lazy susan” is… (but be a bit more tactful if your Mum = Susan!!!) 🙂
Its the round turntable thingy in the middle of the dining table that spins your shared meal around… probably more common on a chinese restaurant table.
Quote:It seems a lot of us are getting into 1/10 rc’s these days. I just aquired a tamiya dirt thrasher which is the same chassis as your car panda, just different shell and knobby wheels.I hopped it up with ball bearings and a sport tuned 540, its a dirt hill climbing demonNah, been playing RC for yonks… 25+ yrs now. 😀
Took the HORNET racing on Sunday too… :blush:Ambivalent thoughts on the old TA01/DT02 chassis Tamiyas… parts for these are getting very hard to find these days, just about no hobbyshop keeps stock of them anymore. So be a bit careful with it, don’t break any gearcases or chassis parts.
Quote:i tried gluing it but its screwed, it snaps off easy. any serious crash and its scrwed, maybe if i putty it up ghetto styles..What glue are you using?
Araldite might be too stiff and won’t stick well to flexy plastic.Maybe try some “Airfix” glue (which melts & welds the plastic) and reinforce the corners with Shoe Goo. Maybe reinforce it with bits of creditcard too…
Quote:…the WRX doesnt hav the shatter proof bar on it:angry:Whoops… got an unpainted STi too, which just took a tumble off the coffee table and now the roof has stoved in… looks like got runover by BigFoot. blackeye:
(Memo to self:- stop drifting on coffee table.)
Acquired its predecessor “Blazing Star” last week.
Real Doughboy central.Quote:It’s sad that there are losers around that devote all their time to causing mayhem and havoc for others….Well… imho, gotta admit at least that takes (some) brains.
Not promoting it or anything, but one still needs half a braincell
to propogate such mischief. Or have friends who do.But for those participants in the “Human Shield” bus tour in Iraq, well… One would hope there’s more to life than to volunteer to be target practice!!! If anyone finds me on that bus, could you please SHOOT ME FIRST, PLEASE? :dead: (!)
