Now that I’e posted this I think it’s wrong??? Isn’t the 12:1 gear the lowest topspeed but highest accel one? Therefore the 8.25:1 is the higest topspeed but lowest accel?

    Now I’m confused…..

    ok here ya go matt,

as you can see, i’ve cut between the transfer gear hole and the pcb ‘wall’ downwards. then i go at a 45 degree angle towards the front, so it just cuts into the pcb wall. then i turn it upside down and cut straight down, through the charging plate til i meet up with the second cut:8ball:

Thanks for that mate, I appreciate it. Now I don’t have to think for myself! Do you have any issues with the intermediate gear coming off during operation?

Kit racer gears I think, not sure. My gears come from the GS-03 gear set:

*edit – copy from a website*

This gear set allows you to adjust factors such as top speed and acceleration. Comes in three different ratios:

    12:1 – for increased acceleration

9.86:1 – for an all round medium top speed and acceleration

8.25:1 – for increased top speed

I went to a store called “the warehouse” and got a crapy $4 diecast dune buggy car from there. It was a lucky find cause most of these cheapo toys have plastic wheels.

Damn, you feel dodgy trying to not rip the packaging on the toy whilst checking the toy car to see if it’s got plastic or rubber wheels(sad).

bettster, at what position do you cut the rear motor assembly away from the chassis man? I was looking at it tonight and I’m not %100 sure. Do you have a close enough pic of that TOMY chassis you’ve done so I can have a squizz?

I just took it out the front of my house and let her rip on the concrete. Damn this thing is fast! :p I forget that the size of the wheels contribute to the land speed. The tread on the rear wheels grip the concrete like nothing else.

Anyways, suffered the first casualty of the R&D process, lost my front right wheel! Gotta look at other ways of securing it!

Damn prez! :p You really know your stuff man! @#$%^ brilliant I say. I didn’t even know you could get two different types of putty. You really have an eye for shape and detail. I know I’m still learning on that. The most bodymodding I’ve been doing is filling up the hole in the back! lol…. Oh well…. The thought and layout you put into your member’s gallery has really helped me with ideas on the process of bodymodding. Damn dude, I wish there was a comp on for you to enter your cars in.

Can’t wait to see the end result!

    Cheers mate,

I was tempted to do the zzse ’cause I love that car but in the end I went with old faithfull, the bit-charG. You can’t beat the original. The Sbcg’s just have too many hangups that make them pretty crap in an evolutionary step sorta thing. If the zzse was a better peformer out of the box I would of voted for that no questions asked.

Just make sure you have the room on the front end for the wheels to turn OK without seizing up against the chassis.

Ok then, the gods have given me a bit of time this week to work on this puppy and I’m now a little bit closer to finishing.

The first problem was the non-flush headlight mount, I trialled the sanding down of the leds to an angle to allow a flush mount but that didn’t really work out that well. So instead I used a bit of bluetak to hold the led in place so that the angle of view went straight out through the headlight area on the shell.

    led.jpg

With the bluetak being used as a jig I could then dab a little bit of superglue on the area under the led and then let it set. After about 10 minutes I removed the bluetak and the led is good to go.

    led1.jpg

Now with that done for both leds I know need to start putting it al together. One week later I managed to build another little DCDC converter board (as most of you know I use this little circuit to power all my light kits from the main PCB battery) and now I’m just putting it all together.

Soon I will be finished with this. Still gotta put the rear brakelights in :).

I found that the clear chassis LXX super perfections allowed me to see the magnet travel and yes one way travels more than the other.

Maybee you should try to re-seat the coils and space them so there is equal travel distance between both sides. It’s hard to tell though when you don’t have the clear chassis.

    cheers,

brendan, when viewing the shell under a strong light you can see an ever so slight difference between the front of the shell and other areas where the shell is painted black on the underside. The difference is barely noticeable though.

Another way of having to counter translucency in your shell, espceially clear ones it to put down an undercoat before painting in hte colour of your choice.
