Nimhs are the absolute king of batteries, if it wasn’t against God’s own law I’d make em me wife!

Yeah thanks Barto, if you were in Melbourne, and could get here, I was gunna offer you a drive of my LXX scale racer (I love her so).

Once again, I agree with SMP.

I swapped my light up beetle to shadow_sabre, on the proviso he paid the shipping on our latest TE order :D. I have only run it a couple of times but here is my review. (It remained unopened for 7 whole days because my new LXX Scale Racer was/is just so damn good)

    Light Up Beetle
’tis a fine piece of machinery… for it’s price.
Up until now I hadn’t had an LXX/Perfection anything.

LOVE the original 3.0 with black endcap, torque-y, good top speed, it just doesn’t like non-turbo much.

Tyres are soft and slick. Really soft. Like, remember elephant balls from primary school, foam covered in vinyl, that kinda soft. But sadly they are flawed. They have an ugly seam running around them that just puts me off them. Seem to go alright tho. (boom boom, chish)

TX/RX range varied. Easily fixed, remove the crumby original piece of wire, drop in some CAT5. Replace stock controller antennea with a clone retractable one. Now the range is pretty good.

Steering is very nice. Probably as good as the best micro steering I have come across.

The shells (one each of green and red) are okay at best. Dags, scuffs and inconsistencies all over, but then again, it’s more accurate that way :). Seriously though, the green one is one of the nicest shades ever! The plastic is also stiffer and more brittle-feeling than TOMY plastic, but at least it is clear.

Controller is okay, but I hate that “took took” noise that char-g’s HAFTA make!!! Not really a strike against the LXX but it really does shit me. It is much easier on the eyes than a TOMY one I think, light, translucent, blue and clear.

The battery in mine is a stinking NiCad. It still gets like 5 minute run times, but I expected at least a 120mAh Nimh, GRRR.

The gears (as expected) are noisey, not too bad, but not TOMY quiet.

In summery, great 2nd, 3rd or +++ car and damn good value for money, but just doesn’t have the refinement of a TOMY Compact Char-g. Would I buy another one? Absolutly, but not with my last blue beer ticket!

I spent all of today charging 3 old char-g batteries and running the sub on those.

It will now throw rooster-tails of water all over the kitchen if you hold “reverse and steer”

I agree with young SMP, I got the light up beetle set and the 360 modena set. Cheap in both senses of the word. There are better clones out there. The LXX scale racer on the other-hand rocks my world.

I don’t have, but I would love an electric screwdriver bit that can remove/reattach wheel nuts on a mini-z

I appoligise for my last post, free beer and tequila sunrises got the better of me.

I went out today and spent $7 on a clear plastic tub, and now that is my sub’s playground.
I got a TE order goin out on tuesday morning, and i’m gunna pick up 3 char-g 200mAh batteries, and try to kill it 😀

Replaced the antennea with some cat5, its a little heavy and makes it harder to drive, but i can now drive it from the other side of the kitchen (Y)

The (sub in my drunkeness) is about 8cm long, 6cm wide, and 3cm high. range leaves a little to be desired, but such is the nature of the beast.

Say “YES” to Chrimbo shindigs on store $$$ 😀

BTW: jugs are about the right size for fun, fish tanks are good for profit
    😀

I tried cheap and nast batteries, and it is much better, only sinks when you drive.

Okay, a review (my first time, be gentle)

MY LXX SCALE RACER (MINI-Z CLONE)

Firstly, I have never touched a Kyosho Mini-z. I did see one once up close, but I was so drunk the guy said I wasn’t allowed to touch it :D.

The car is FULLY proportional, as far as I can tell. There is no discernable “stepping” in the throttle or steering. Let me tell you, that suprised hell outta me.

The chassis is at least as “sturdy-looking” as a Auldey, my only real basis for comparison. Although, the H-plate looks kinda flimsy.

It goes pretty darn fast… about as fast as my relayed, hotted up tinracer, and the LXX is still stock.

It handles REAL nice. I 2-odd total hours of play, I’ve managed to flip it only once, and that was after it hit a tuft of grass between the crack in our concrete.

The bodys are acceptable, once again, nicer than a tinracer, but just a little flimsy. My friend cracked the windshield by slamming it into the corner of our fridge, but it was going flat-chat (lucky I had the commonsense to buy a spare Ferrari body).

Wheels look nice, and are reasonably true, but clearly I need BBs. Tyres are soft enough that if it is sitting on a table and you gently try to push against the roll of them, its a struggle.

The radio rocks. Feels like you could ruin a smack addict’s day with it :D. Heavy (the good kind of heavy), sturdy, and awesome range (50-100 car lengths). Only complaint is the steering wheel on the controller is developing an oh-so slight squeak, still better than a Char-G’s button noise.

800mAh nihms from Jaycar rule. $14 for 8 Energiser e^2’s or $12 for 4 nihms, and they are a wang-load faster.

SMP: Chassis (for the blue viper, and ferrari 355) is set up as medium, but it is adjustable.

Personally, and I am kinda biased, but I think this car is more fun than any I have driven, no contest. Every one that has a spin of it askes “how much, and where?”, and then pouts when I say “AU$45, hong kong”. I am also yet to find someone who is incapable of driving it within 60 seconds. Char-gs took ages to get the hang of, yet this takes literally seconds.
icebreaka: the fun you get out of an R/C car is the time you put into it, eg.. in the same TE order I got two LXX Char-gs. They are still both NIB because every time i want an R/C fix, I switch on the Viper. Plus if i kill the Viper I’m only $45 down, not $200-odd.

So in summary, I haven’t (yet) found a bad thing to say about this car. I’d say it is the perfect car.

I have to give my brand spanking new LXX mini-z the biggest pair of thumbs up ever. Move over Char-g’s the king is dead, long live the king.

But seriously, I finally took the plunge a week ago and made a toyeast order, which included this luffly machine. 14 hours from when they posted it, it was in my hot little hands, but damn night fill got in the way, so I didn’t get to play with it until 20 min ago, and let me tell you it rocks my world.
I have had tinracers and char-gs for the past year, a race-win for about 6 months, but this just obliterates them all.

BEST AU$45 (+postage) I have EVER spent (except that one night in Tejuana)

I have an enertec car, but mine doesn’t have the rad, clear stabilus(sp). Is that aftermarket, a glitch in the pictures or just only avalible on certain cars??? (mine is the blue WRX)

I am pretty sure the material that produces the glow is EL sheet. I’m not sure how easy it is to transfer from a watch to a car tho, but it can be bought on its own.

can’t think of it off the top of my head, but it’s the MR2. I’m up on Regent Ave.
Still if anyone can hook me up with parts (tyres/wheels, maybe a hot motor and higher gears) let me know

Resistors, no, but I have heard arguements for diodes tho, as relays have a tendency to “bounce” when you hit a bump, and I am pretty sure if it happened your batteries could short out… but damned if it keeps ME up at night. What other upgrades have you got/planned?

Search the forum, there is a link to the schematic. The relays to use (I used anyway) are Jaycar, micro 6v 6pin relays http://www1.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=SY4058&CATID=11&keywords=&SPECIAL=&form=CAT&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=xxxxxxxxxx&Keyword2=xxxxxxxxxx&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID=630 is the link for the relay
http://www.tinracing.com/Diagrampages/diagram16.htm is the link for the diagram, don’t say I never did nothin’ for ya 😛
